Change of date.
IGOBF AGM will be held at Killeshin Hotel, Portlaoise on Sunday May 28th at 2 oclock, this later date will allow newly formed GOBAs more time to become established.

Nominations for position of Chairman, Vice Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary and PRO must be submitted to Secretary [email protected] by 18.00 Thursday April 20. Nominations will only be accepted from affiliated GOBAs. Nominations will only be accepted from the floor at the AGM if the positions are not filled.

Currently we have Cork GOBA, Kerry GOBA, Waterford GOBA, Mid-West GOBA, Tipperary GOBA and Mullingar GOBA affiliated. We welcome the formation and affiliation of GOBAs from areas not currently represented. New Regional GOBA affiliations must be submitted to Secretary [email protected] by 18.00 Thursday April 20. Nominations will be accepted for positions from newly affiliated GOBAs.

We would ask all regional GOBAs to hold their AGMs before April 23 if they have not done so already and nominate their two representatives to attend the IGOBF meetings for the year. Regional GOBAs can alternate or substitute their representative during the year but each Regional GOBA will be limited to two voting representatives at all IGOBF meetings

IGOBF- 1st Peaceful protest on Saturday 13th May in Carrigaline Co Cork

Minister Simon Coveney, We the IGOBF- Federation would like to show you our appreciation for appointing unprofessional (skills Gap) personnel to run our greyhound industry into the gutter and for being accountable for the collapse of our industry we the greyhound people (Grassroots)of the greyhound industry will be holding a demonstration in the small town of Carrigaline Co Cork on Saturday the 13th May at 12 o clock, we will be going through the town holding banners with your name on them informing everyone what you have done to greyhound racing in Ireland, as Minister for AFAM you failed to take control of some very serious issues within our industry to such an extent our industry is on the brink of collapse, Minister Coveney , you appointed those people to oversee the wellbeing of our industry therefore it is up to you to remove them before we are ALL left with nothing, see you on the 13th May in your home town of Caragaline Co Cork.
On behalf of the IGOBF.

Well-done James O'Conner for a great interview with Paschal Taggart.

The Chairman during one brief exchange displayed very publicly why the Irish greyhound industry is unlikely to survive. Mr Meaney seemed perplexed that anybody could have difficulty with Board members circumventing the rule that prohibits Board members from owning greyhounds. He seemed quite chuffed with himself when he announced that 6 of the 7 Board members were actually greyhound owners. The Board of IGB dont seem to understand that the Irish greyhound industry has a level of integrity that simply is not acceptable to the rest of the world. Board members need to be beyond reproach.

We also had a meeting of the Agriculture Committee on Wednesday May 3. This meeting was Chaired by Pat Deering FG. Mr Deering made the following announcement at the meeting.

Before we begin, I want to put on record my own declaration that the chairperson of the Irish Greyhound Board, Mr. Phil Meaney, who will be coming before us to make a presentation, is a personal friend of mine.

And therein lies the problem, breaks the rules but is untouchable.

Carlow businessman Phil Meaney was put in after political lobbying by a Fine Gael TD and, according to Mr Coveney, extensive consultation with the industry.
Regardless of his credentials in business, the decision flew in the face of a pre-election commitment to publicly vet such candidates. The minister said this was an exemption.
There was an urgency required, Mr Coveney said, to deal with problems in the semi-state company and a vacuum in leadership.
To make amends, he promised the appointment of Mr Hogans local organiser to the 21,000-a-year post was conditional on his confirmation by an Oireachtas committee. In the Dil, Taoiseach Enda Kenny stressed that such an interview would and should happen, to ensure openness and transparency.
[Mr Meaney] will have to go before the appropriate agriculture committee to give his views on how the board should be run, his vision for it, the competencies he brings to the position, and how he views the future for the board, he said.
As in all other cases, that will be available as a public discourse between the committee dealing with agriculture and the appointee to Bord na gCon.
Mr Meaneys appearance before that Oireachtas committee did not happen. He has never been publicly vetted or questioned about his role, despite what the Taoiseach and the minister promised.

This was Phil Meaneys reply on the 4th May
Mr. Phil Meaney: At the moment, there are six board members and a chairman. I was appointed by the Minister of the day, through an interview process, as was another board member.

These are facts, it is very obvious that the chairman of the IGB is somewhat confused he DID NOT take part in any interview process, will the PAC take a dim view of the chairmans false information? Or is it acceptable to give DELIBERATE false information to the members of the PAC if so there is little point in holding such meetings IMO.

Another meeting with the IGB and the issues are still there, they will not go away unless they are dealt with in the proper and transparent manor, in any normal run business you are expected to know your Duties and to carry them out to the highest standard possible, it seems that certain elements in the IGB prefer to run with their own rules and make up the regs as they go, this needs to be addressed immediately if we are going to see change, JMO.

Tracks are not up to racing standards by a long shot, greyhounds smashing their hocks because of incompetency within the IGB, they have failed to deliver on providing a suitable racing surface for your dogs to race on safely, taking the cheap way out by buying shite loads of sand not fit for shuttering footpaths with is unacceptable and someone must be held accountable, Head of Welfare was notified regarding this sand that was full of stones and agreed it was not fit for purpose, but what did he do to rectify this situation? NOTHING. Time the CEO took control of this outfit and removed the weaknesses from his team.

Meeting was abandoned due to certain issues arising on the night, issues will be straightened out asap and all delegates will be informed of next meeting date in due course.

Regarding the position of new IGB chairman it is very important that we are appointed the right person to take this industry forward, the closing date has been extended by one week due to lack of interest shown.
