I this is a strange question, but new to game, I have acquired a bitch tthat is 2 and 1/2 years old. Apparently broken in at Lara 19.80, had 3 weeks at pretrainers now, trailed twice, pretrainers saying her times not up to TAB standard but her breakin was. I know she has been out of work for awhile after breaking, and today just had her C5, can all this affect trail times? Is there any thing that can be done?

Mark, get her thoroughly checked over by a competent vet or muscleman, and regularly, as a lot of dogs have injuries/soreness after being broken in. She also needs to be fitter, if she has been out of work for a while. Free galloping will help. Get a full blood test done as well, as many dogs have blood problems that need correcting to show their full potential, especially after breaking in. Also, most vets advise not to run the dog for about 10 days after having its immunisation. Good luck and hope she improves for you.

Thanks Carole, great info. I might get her to a spelling paddock for a bit then. The pretrainers wants to trial her in a half field run in 10 days hoping this will improve her. I might get him also then to get her a full check.

Mark, also find out if she has been in season recently, as if she has, she could be in her milk period, which would drastically affect her times, and could cause muscle injury.

Ok that I did not know. Who would know if she had been in season?

Depends who has had her lately. If she is in her milk period, the glands running along her abdominal muscles, around her teats, will be up, and if the teats are squeezed gently, fluid will come out of them It is worth checking out all these things, especially if she broke in well.

Thanks. The problem for me is she isn't with me she is down in Melbourne and I am in Sydney. Might get pretrainers to get her checked. Cheers

Mark, send me a PM, and let me know the pre-trainer, as I might know the person.

Will u train her or someone else mark,at her age pre training mite be a waste of time, get her home & do wat carole said,if she's ok get her fit then look at trials.trialling now mite do more damage. if u don't train her try find a trainer explain the situation & most decent trainers will have her rite in 6-8wks, it mite cost u but least u will know wat she can do.

Unfortunately I don't have the space to train her or the time. I was hopping the trail times might help me find a trainer for her. Would anyone know of any?

Sorry Andrew when you say Trailing could do more damage, do you mean if there is an issue?

Yes & she isn't really in work, pre trainers free gallop them but they don't really train them, so to trial u need to be hard fit,i don't know wat sort of work they are doing with her, its hard to say as i don't know wat she did after break-in.i just think if she's going backwards its no use trialling till. she's sorted out, thats why it would be good to get a trainer,if she broke in well someone should give her a go.

I have been told he is working her up, exercising twice a day. Not sure after break in but don't think she did much after from my understanding of what I have been told. He hasn't run her in any formal trails just round a privet track. I am very new to this and not really sure what's best so real just going by what he tells me.The guys she with will organise a vet check and bloods. I hope there is something that we can fix. Lol you said a good trainer could have her going in 6 to 8 weeks she has only been with this guy for 3 weeks now.
