Guess if you want to get a high data rating on your dog you better give him a turn around Sheffield! still way out of wack there.

Agreed Colin, ratings need to structured in a more understandable way, people who buy a dog of Sheffield rated for example 120 will potentially end up with a moderate grader elsewhere.

What would be moderate grade?

The connections of this dog surely must be delighted with his performances regardless of his ratings.
Could be some dogs just run Sheffield better than else where ?

Excellent run last night, I'm not being disrespectful in anyway and as I've said before I don't take much notice of ratings , it's far better looking at the performance of the dog , what he/she beat , how they ran that specific track etc, when I say the dog could be rated 100+. at Sheffield it could be a3/a4 elsewhere and not achieve that rating ,on the flip side of that as proven it could be even better elsewhere.

The Sheffield ratings make stud dog analysis very difficult as the offspring get ratings above their true ability leading to the stud dogs appearing better than they are. I have disregarded Sheffield ratings for some time now.

As an example...and no disrespect to owner/trainer or dog look at Kowloon Jumbo son of Farley Blitz and rated 123 and compare ratings from Sheffield and then Monmore. Maybe Monmore didn't suit him or maybe his form dipped, but far too many similar examples to be found. As previously mentioned, that rating can have quite a big influence on the perceived ability of the stud dog.

Even in the face of indisputable facts and countless examples presented it will be argued on here that the ratings are a fair reflection of a dogs ability, its a dead end.

When one considers the huge task of setting up and maintaining the database it's a shame that for want of a bit tinkering it becomes almost pointless in using the ratings to assess a dogs comparative ability. It's like grading a race but refusing to see that one dog is higher grade than his opponents

Looks to me the ratings at Towcester are higher than other tracks. It's the new Sheffield.

Been looking at Poole dogs recently gone to towcester and there ratings have jumped up. Also others from Swindon gone from a best 56 to now 86. Holy Water for one example

The ratings are a useful guide but you need to look at the individual runs to get a true idea of a dogs abillity. I have a bitch that did 30.11 at Nottingham on 28/12/15 and got a 94 rating and then did 30.31 on 18/1/16 and got a 95 rating !

I presented numerous examples to the ratings man on here regards Swindon ratings being consistently too low,he wouldnt have it,without even addressing the specific examples i raised he just dismissed my points, its a complete waste of time.
