Jamie, you forgot to add---

The dog was lining up for its 5th start in 500m+ races in 15 days.

Petar, I did not tell the vet how to do her job.
I did tell her that I know my dog better than she does.

Ian, I doubt the vet reads the form guide. Maybe she should have.

I was wondering why he was scratched, mayb they should look at the dogs form, then they would've seen that u dont get 20 odd wins if u miss injuries! & any dog will squeal if u squeaze hard enough in rite spot.

We have only heard one side of this story.

You would know better than me Ray, that anything I put in my email to the integrity officer at grsa will be ignored because the vet is a vet and I'm a mere trainer. Worse than that, I'm an interstate trainer.
So this forum is the only place where trainers can put their point across.
Im sure she is a very good vet and extremely knowledgeable.
But in my opinion, her examination of my first dog Signal Peak was excessive. This dog has an old stopper injury and he doesn't like having his wrist snapped back like that. She did it 3 times and used both hands on the 3rd attempt.
Then her assessment of Jacqui Blax was, in my opinion, a desperate attempt to find something. JB was only vetted because she was favorite.
I found the vets demeanour towards me as dismissive and offensive.
I would love the chance to meet with her at the grsa office and explain why I feel this way.
And Ray, there were other people who witnessed all this. You were not one of them.

.
Jamie,
If your description of the test of the injury is correct then, I have no hesitation in suggesting the examination was excessive.

Oh precious precious Mini Quinny, the drama of it all.
Sometimes the world can be a cruel cruel place, so hop on the stage and pour out your grievances.
Toughen up and take off the skirt.

Why don't you have the dogs professionally checked before crying foul?
Ever consider that she had detected some response from Signal Peak's wrist and was putting it to the test before race conditions? No? What if she checked him and cleared him to race and he went lame? I suppose you would then blame her for not being thorough enough?

Quote..."The vet even looked at me in disbelief when I told her that I know my dogs better than her."
The AUDACITY of the woman!
Wasn't it YOU who just recently sent back a dog because an owner was trying to tell you that he knows his dog best and wanted you to take/put weight off/on his dog and you told him where to go?
So you do the same thing and get a "where to go" and you take offense?
She's a qualified VET and you are?
She just might have saved your dog's ass...get the bloody thing checked by a top Grey Vet for Christ sake!
You can get on the stage and perform if it then gets the ok.
Posting a video of it prancing in the back yard ain't close to race conditions, lunatic.
Geez, talk about squeezing every ounce out of a situation.

Your bitch...
Very hard to sometimes determine muscle soreness when the dog is still hot after a run, Mini.
Most people get their dogs checked after a day or two, but no, you declare "There is absolutely nothing wrong with this bitch. Nothing." the SAME NIGHT! Genius! Your talents know no boundaries.
Perhaps, dear Quinny, she actual DID feel a response and was delving a little hard to confirm because the dog was still hot? No? No, impossible.
I've watched the replay and she didn't run on like the good bitch she is, so maybe, just maybe, there MIGHT be something not right.
Again, why don't you get the bitch checked properly before declaring "absolutely nothing wrong"?

IF the dogs get the all clear, present the certificates and get a reduction on stand down time...simple, hey?

Then after all that, get on here, and the newspapers, a current affair, and our mate Ray Hadley, and of course AAP, and GRANDSTAND all you like!

Stop being upset and don't feel targeted...take a bex and get some sleep dear.

Love,
Micky.

Geraghty may be closer to the truth. Dog with wrist advertised on here for $15,000 few weeks back? Stopped like stone few runs back after leading by big space.Always two sides to story. Best to hear all evidence before judgement.

Not at all commenting on this particular situation or Jamie dog but I think there are plenty of instances where dogs get over the table and are passed to race when they are clearly not sound. And as an owner/ trainer I'd be more furious if an injured dog was allowed to race and interfered and injured one of my dogs as a result. I've found the vet in question to be extremely thorough and does a wonderful job. Clearly takes pride in her job and has the best interests of the dogs at heart, something I welcome

Even if it's an isolated case, it's still a case. Vets and stewards work together, no 'ifs or buts'. They know who is in the zoo with their pooch for the day and ability levels and attitude of vets vary. Generally, they do a good job.
.
The complaint is on file now.

I have had instances of vets carrying clippers and attempting to cut dewclaws on Raceday and another tried to put a cotton bud inside a bitch of mine I can tell u the proverbial hit the fan but stand your ground no matter what they try and protect your animal. The threat of legal action goes a long way.I draw the line at vet abuse with a foreign object lol.

This is very factual the vet tried to insert the bud inside the bitch but a threat of legal action took them by surprise.I am not one to allow any such behaviour and when they say I'm checking if she on season my reply was u don't have to be a vet to see for yourself. You could imagine how this would irritate the dog and before u race it's game over. The other vet who cuts dewclaws won't give me the time of day now - his loss.I don't care who people think they are they can hide behind a degree but this behaviour is unacceptable and 35 years of training gives me enough balls to fire up.

Facts.

Jamie has done a remarkable job in a short space of time. He has an excellent strike rate, drives around the world to successfully race his dogs and has a brood bitch that would throw winners to a dachshund.

The veterinarian in question is not an anti. She is the most successful greyhound breeder and rearer in SA. She has had a greyhound of the year, brood bitch of the year, stud dog of the year and two 2nds in the Australian Cup. Katandra King behind Tangairn and True To Do a certainty beaten 2nd to China Trip. Track record holders as well.

She can appear abrupt because she does not crave popularity but she is highly principles and is a great checker of dogs.
