Last year in Adelaide there was an anti greyhound racing protest which attracted a crowd of around 24 people. Some of this number was made up of children, no doubt forced to come along by their idealistic parents.
Of course, the ABC news team gave the crowd of 24 airtime.

On Friday night, a crowd of over 1200 people attended the Adelaide Cup meeting at Angle Park. They were treated to a spectacular night of 12 incident free races. There was other stuff going on, GAP dogs on parade, puppies, some competitions, kids activities, etc, but when there was a race on, the majority of the crowd filled the terraces to see if they had backed a winner.
People were lined up outside the fully glassed kennel block, to see the dogs being prepared, and coming back from their races.

People LOVE greyhound racing. People LOVE greyhounds.
Why aren't our governing bodies actively promoting the sport for the action packed heart pumping fast paced thrilling contest that it is, instead of trying to fly under the radar and get business done without ruffling feathers.
24 people hate the sport.
1200 people love it.
Those numbers are a marketing dream.

Jamie.... I notice this topic has been up for a while. a couple hundred "looks" plenty of "likes"

You have hit the nail on the head mate!

Here in Vic I reckon Sandown, Bendigo and Taralgon are up there with promotion of the tracks, but agree more needs to be done.. I can understand (and sort of accept) the policing of the industry, but if the powers to be spent just 20% of the budget they have been allocated to police the industry and spent it to PROMOTE the industry,,,,
We would all be better off. We all hear of the added policing of our game, so many staff employeed to watch over us all!
How much has been appointed to PROMOTE our game?

Rich.

Jamie and Richard both of your posts make sense I could bang on about promoting the industry but two words the leaders don't understand or don't want to understand is COMMON SENSE.Jamie it was good to see people in attendance Friday night enjoying themselves along with there families but more could of been done anyway what the fck do we know it was a start maybe GAP could take over the promotions of greyhound racing lots of money there to find homes for the retired greyhounds

I have been banging on for years on how much the general public like greyhounds and greyhound racing. Where ever I go I have invariably got one or two retired racers with me and I am regularly stopped in the street often by children who love to pet the dogs. It usually starts with the question "do you race them mister?" to which my stock reply is "yes I do but they always beat me!" Unfortunately it isn't long before the conversation turns to how cruel is racing and aren't all the races fixed and the dogs doped. I do my best to dispell this view but it is not helped by the racing authorities not clamping down on the miscreants who get regularly caught after positive tests for illegal substances but are never suspended and are just given fines that are paid by millionaire owners. Like most owner trainers my dogs welfare is paramount for example a few weeks ago one of my racers, Mallogs Heather, broke her hock in a race at Clonmel. She is A8 and had never won a race. She had her leg set with a screw by my vet at a cost of 652 but she will never race again although she should live a long and happy life as a pet. I know that I am not alone in looking after my dogs but I don't expect to see a banner headline in the tabloid press saying "Greyhound trainer looks after his dogs" Greyhounds make wonderful pets and I have posted a short video of Heather on You Tube. Personally I think that those so called "professional" trainers that abuse their dogs by the use of illegal substances and bring greyhound racing into disrepute should be banned out of the sport.

All true. Well done in exposing what is so good about greyhounds n racing them and the plight we face. It appears racing in SA is on the rise.

Keep on training winners JQ. I know you must be putting in a lot of time n effort to achieve those results.

obviously the people running greyhound racing r useless.

remember in nsw our leaders walked into bairds office to beg to be allowed to continue racing even though we were banned for doing nothing wrong.

with this type of attitude its no wonder there is zero promotion of the positives of greyhound racing.

I also recall the NSW Gov paying $1.6m in advertising to show the world what a bunch of cruel pricks we all are.
Perhaps an apology and an advertising account of $3.2m, to allow the NSW public to see just how awesome this sport is.

That's interesting.
I understand that everyone is entitled to an opinion, but the thread is about the industry's image and promotion.
Clearly the person isn't interested in the well being of Greyhound racing and has an ingrained HATE for it.

So, BAN the w@nker and get on with it.

Wonder if I'll get a "dislike"? I'll be shattered if I do.

Imagine if the greys had a media campaign which equalled that of the thorougheads, but they never will while the thorougheads dictate the industry.

Funny you should say that, Dan. I was thinking the same thing and it can be done. Have a few ideas.

They were spruiking on Nine, Sydney this morning, that Randwick on Saturday had the largest crowd this century for the Everest ? Yes, but it wasn't for the Everest, it was for the concert to see Jason Derulo for one hour after the last. Well done to them.
.
We need to do 1000% better in advertising and promotion, especially in NSW that's for sure !

We need to be gifted an additional $10m per annum

Nice thought, Sandro, but there is more chance of me receiving 2 Group 1 puppies in my Santa sack at Xmas.
Only one way it's ever going to happen and that is...the industry finally wakes up to the fact that the owners, breeders, and trainers are the only ones genuine enough to promote the industry the way it should be.
The industry itself taking the situation by the scruff of the neck and swinging into action.
For this to happen we need a dedicated group, funded by the industry, that is so switched on and professional, the industry finally starts to go forward.

From little things, big things grow.

I couldn't think of a more appropriate song for the industry.
We are all little Vincents.
Strangely enough, one of the biggest supporters of the industry during the baird ban was aboriginal.
