fair enough people have the right to put a price on a greyhound in classifieds but there's some very over priced greyhounds for sale.sellers you need to get your hand of it put some realism in your prices

Frank which ones are overpriced? People don't have to buy them if they think there to expensive one way to look at it is that it costs a lot of money to get a dog to the track nowadays and with a shortage of dogs people might think there dog is worth a bit more as I said you don't have to buy them cheers

I agree with Frank, there is always a fair amount of dogs that are way overpriced for the ability shown. Or have shown ability, but it is common knowledge that the dogs will never run close to the times again and there is a zero to many on the price.

Frank there is an old saying "Something is worth what someone is prepared to pay for it".
Another "Something is worth what you can get for it when you HAVE to sell it"

Im on the other side, if Im selling a dog and someone thinks its over priced I will not take it to heart and people can negotiate if they wish.
I say amongst friends that someone may want too much for a dog when Im trying to buy it and the deal isnt done.
Someone will say the same when Im selling a dog.
It all goes around and we all survive.

Out of interest Frank what have u breed lately? I only ask as it is a very expensive risk and with supply and demand u will find prices may increase to get quality.

So what do think is priced to high then?
My opinion is if it sells quick it's priced right. It if doesn't sell for a while it might be priced to high.

Some of the racing dogs are way over priced but good luck to them if someone pays it.

Spot on Simon, though it more likely that most, rather than some, are over priced.
There's not much difference between buying used cars, and racing dogs--- too often you are buying someone else's problems.

It's interesting isn't it. Two weeks ago I put a bitch on called SKYWISE. Very consistent bitch 26 placing from 32 starts and has won in best of night of 600m as well as 440m....so heaps of scope and consistency.
I was very honest about her and would have accepted $12,000 for her. I have another minor shareholder in her and that was our agreement.
I got various offers all under the $12,000 which is totally fine but I wasn't going to accept them. Clearly everyone thought she was overpriced because no one offered more than $10,000.
I suggested to some people I spoke to that it was my opinion she would win soon at Wentworth Park. She is also very consistent in her grade and even though in my opinion she is not for Melbourne could win many races still including 600m plus.
In the two weeks since she has won at Wentworth Park on a Saturday and 2nd on Wednesday amassing $5,800 in prize money in two starts since.
Point is we all have opinions. What might seem over priced today may not be tomorrow.
No point complaining - evaluate buy or offer and move on. Just as buyers have the right to say x, sellers have the right to nominate a price. Often knowing what the dog is capable of and pricing accordingly.
And for what it is worth the biggest variable in the whole price equation is the owner/trainer get 100% of prize money versus owner needing a trainer getting 50% of the prize money. Point of that is to one person $12,000 might be great value to another $12,000 might be pushing the envelope because $24,000 is break even on racing.
Like everything lots of variables.
FYI I ended up taking her off data cause I got so many texts and calls from people not reading the ad or being so far off the price that it drove me nuts.

Hi Frank, whilst some litters may appear expensive, the breeding process isn't,but i just found a couple of litters that are extremely good value for money in my opinion, both are on the first page of " pups for sale",the first is a litter by Elite State from a nice race bitch,& the other is by a relative new comer to the breeding barn,Book Keeper, the broodbitch is by a sire that has already " clicked" with him,so if people are on a budget, there are some very good buys out there if they look into it far enough,& do some homework.( Another fairly priced litter is by Hay Fergus...),just depends on what someone is prepared to pay ultimately.

Daryl, thanks for highlighting my Bookkeeper litter. I lodged the add on 2/10/17 but so far have only had 3 inquiries, all for the male pup, but no sales. With what I thought was a very reasonable price, I am scratching my head abit due to the obvious lack of interest....

Fact, people don't sell good dogs!!!! Trainers with a "name" cash in when dogs reach their grade, are getting on three and all the good fruit is on the ground, that is how it is!!! How many maidens do these same people sell, (only slow ones at pumped up dollars). I have observed the same thing for over fourty years. I would do the same thing, but with dollars matching ability, grade and keeping my good name.

G'day Patrick, somtime's the pup's you can't sell turn out to be the best in the litter,i would think that by using Book Keeper as the sire, you where looking to inject some strength into mix?,so hopefully a buyer will come along who like your'e pup's soon, best of luck mate.

Daryl, you are spot on with the looking for injecting more strength plan. Hopefully l am correct as we have kept the majority of the litter
