The dog that fell (LOCERYL) should have been declared a NON STARTER and all dividends adjusted accordingly. Anything less is not sportsmanship like.
Can anyone LINK the STEWARDS REPORT to that race please?

knowing how bad some of the stewards decisions have been, the dog was lucky not to be given a ticket for failing to pursue the lure, lol.

what do you have to do to (a) declare it a no-race -or (b) declare LOCERYL a non runner ??
RACE 10 DINKY DI WEB DESIGNS (5+ WINS N/P) STAKE 8.16pm 400m SE EARLY SCRATCHINGS NIL -GUSTOW BALE and APRILS PEARLAH began slowly. On the first turn CONNIE BALE moved down checking ORACLE OF OMAHA and APRILS PEARLAH. On the turn off the back straight CONNIE BALE moved down checking RALOO BARTZY. On the turn into the home straight LOCERYL made contact with a duck causing LOCERYL to fall. LOCERYL was vetted after the race with NO INJURY DETECTED.
Why wasn't the duck vetted?

The trainer should consider herself lucky she didn't get charged with live baiting

Love the Mount Kev. Great atmosphere. I reckon Loceryl could have won the race but seriously, just call it bad luck. Why bother with an inquiry? Maybe they should employ a shooter. Ducks learn pretty quickly.

I am waiting for the animal rights people to use this a a reason to ban the sport. Lucky its not in NSW or trainer may well have been.

Lol.
If it happened in Qld, the dog would have to perform 3 STEWARD-trials before being entered in a race. THEM THE RULES.

Does everyone remember this fro 2010? EXTERNAL LINK I think this was called a dead race from memory. Surely the duck on track should be the same given it did probably chance results.

Steward's Report
Stewards declared 'hold all tickets' for this event due to a hare crossing the track as the field entered the home straight. After reviewing the official race film and in the opinion of stewards acting under Rule 56(1), Stewards declared a 'no race' due to the finishing positions 1st - 4th being altered by this incident. Ginny Lou was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained abrasions to left hind toes. No stand down period was imposed.

A similar thing happened to either KNOCKA NORRIS or his full litter sister ELITE ORIENTAL, at the track which was stolen from QUEENSLAND racing back in 2009...PARKLANDS.
I think it was KN who was that far in front (20 lengths) when a bird swooped down on him just before the finishing line. It was deemed by the Stewards (& correctly so) that it didn't have a reflection on the result. And yes he broke the record.

I see what your saying there was no mention in the stewards report in this duck incident that the dog was making a move unlike the hare incident? If it was my dog I would be wanting it declared a none starter at the very least. Or even as a punter you would want 5hat ass not given fair chance due none normal racing conditions. It would be interesting to hear how other states Stewards would have written it up.

NSW would ban the sport due to 'barbaric cruelty to innocent birdlife' VIC would employ a consultancy group to investigate 'duck protection' methods like netting, lasers, retractable roof, etc. QLD would shut down the track, sell the land and commit to building a new facility within a decade.
So I congratulate GRSA for saying 'duck hit a dog, bad luck, next'
