If anyone had any doubt the amount of non chasers is on the increase probably due to the new rules with a distinct lack of reward for chase need only watch the first two races at Traralgon today. In race one the yellow gets done for failing to chase, in race two the red gets done for marring. Watch the two races & tell me the reason they both weren't done for marring. These people are a joke , get it right or get out.

Lawrence,
If you get the chance, please add the replays to the "G.A.P Bound" topic ... As you rightly say, the numbers of racing dogs doing this seem to be RAPIDLY increasing week by week; and yet, the peak bodies (who are supposedly largely charged with the role of championing "welfare") are seemingly blind to the fact that this obvious reduction in chase is entirely AGAINST the longevity of the racing greyhound's careers!!!
Numbers of racing stock are, in my opinion, already at quite a critical stage. We CANNOT be letting these dogs just disappear from the (racing) system; especially as I believe many of these instances of "transgressing" could have been avoided by properly "motivating" the animals (note that I am NOT in any way advocating any form of "live baiting"!!!)
It's simple really ... If something is broken, THERE IS A NEED TO FIX IT!!!

Anthony, unfortunately I'm not savvy enough to put them up. Hopefully someone else can. & yes they've made crap decisions that are sending our sport to the brink.

It is happening at every meeting and dogs racing manners are not even being questioned ,I've followed a cpl of dogs recently that pull up and / or fight every start and it's laughable they haven't been called in

If they call them in, stats will condemn the worst lure system in Australia.

Watch races one & eight at Traralgon today & tell me stewards are doing their job. Two dogs done for failing to pursue due to injury. If an abrasion on the toe stops a dog chasing we are in trouble. In fact both should've gone for marring, what a joke. Rules working well Grv.

The State Authorities should get a Ticket for "FAILING INDUSTRY PARTICIPANTS"

They should charge themselves with actions detrimental to animal welfare. A life time ban for anyone involved with banning carcasses and animal materials as training aids.

Lawrence,
I understand that Vic stewards policy is to ping them for the first of any two offences. In the first TRA race I dont think the offender made contact hence FTC.
In any event, the TRAR cases plus some others mentioned were in low class races ie slow dogs so you are looking at fields which are hardly world beaters in the first place.
I did some checking of TRAR a little while ago for another reason and found that it had a very high proportion of falls but little mention of FTC or fighting. So the ones you mention may be exceptional.
The related point is that the constant decline in breeding numbers plus the general increase in races in recent years means that the lesser dogs in the litter are getting a run. By definition, they would tend to include more nonnies.
This arithmetic needs to be matched with any breeding or education shortcomings (with evidence) as well as the point made by WDA that alternatives to a sniff are just as good (argue that yourself).
In passing, Crackerjack Choc (85 starts) got pinged for FTC at Horsham earlier in the week. If you watch that video carefully you will see it wave its head around and lose ground on the turn and then settle down and finish on well. This has been a very consistent dog so I suspect it saw a bird or whatever. So you can never tell not that the TRAR examples were anything but blatant offences. All I am saying is that oils aint oils.

Evidence please.
Those stats we do have (SA and QLD) show conclusively that FTC and fighting were reduced when they introduced the wide/high lure.

I get your point Bruce but not all tier 3 dogs are nonnies. A lot of them chase their hearts out, they're just no good. I've had plenty of slow dogs, none of which were fighters.that dog at Traralgon may not have touched other dog but not for lack of trying.

Geelong, race 6. Failing to persue, I don't think so.
