BIG EXCITEMENT AT DERRY’S OPENING NIGHT Michael Fortune
There was a very good response to the first meeting at the brand new Brandywell Track in Derry on Thursday night.
Manager Michael McLaughlin said, “It was a brilliant night and there was a great atmosphere. Everybody appeared to be very positive and it was just great to see dogs running around the Derry track again”.
The first winner at the new venue was the Cyril O’Hagan owned Ghetto Leader (Scolari Me Daddy/ Esker Jill) which won easily in 17.04 for the 300 yards.,
Best run over the sprint distance was the 16.51 from the Declan Crossan trained, Georgina Gibbons owned Rosshill Rocket (Head Bound/ Leamaneigh Lisa).
Fastest over the 500 yards was Anthony Armstrong’s Jaguar Jack (Taylors Sky/ Fuerty Flash) which won by two and a half lengths in 27.91.
Racing will be staged from Mondays until the pool of greyhounds is sufficient to warrant two meetings per week.
