The only problem now is, no matter how pro-active we are..no matter how much head way we may (if possible) make..no matter what decisions the PTB enforce on us whether theyre forward or backwards the next 2 years will only get worse before it gets any better. Thats a fact & Ill put my left nut on it. The lies & coffin driven nails, hammered down by the do-gooders & sheep sniffing @$r3 followers that believe what the majority of us law abiding citizens love to do, is some how cruel, need to be flushed down the you know what. Sh1th0u$e. Those that are employed by us.only mind you due to the fact we exist, need to start earning their high end leather bound air-conditioned cushy salaries & support our cause by listening to us shareholders, instead of fobbing us off. We are not dirt bags because we live & breath in something we love to do. Some people love sipping lattes, some love drink piss & destroying their liver. For gods sake we love racing dogs. Its not a crime & these dogs receive prime food & vitamins because their athletes. They receive the best treatments & get paid more attention then the average child who these days gets thrown a bloody Gameboy or the latest touch-screen hand-held-device & told to p1$$off....& the government are thinking about introducing a SUGAR TAX. Why don't they put a higher tax on these toys & remove taxes on cricket bats & tennis rackets 'n' balls. Anyway that's another story. We need to push some BLOODY BIG BUTTONS NOW as I for one have had enough of the lame excuses..to many to mention before I go to sleep in 6 hours. I agree with your call Stephen on the Racing Minister Mr. Hinchliffe to have an open meeting with the QGBOTA to discuss these issues. Not next year. Not next month. Not next week. RIGHT #$@% now.
The sad fact, Steve, is that there is already a hole in the numbers and you are right, it can't be plugged immediately. It CAN be plugged if there is positive action now and the industry starts to mend with renewed confidence.
It will take an almighty push to convince the pollies to order the turn around.
The public vote the pollies in and can vote them out. The public have no idea how the industry has been treated in the past and no idea how we are treated now.
Perhaps they need to be made aware.

It's a waste of time talking to politicans, bureacrats make ALL the decisions, and the anti discrimimation commission is the greyhound codes best chance of getting justice.JMO.

Steven,
Lots of good stuff there. And QGBOTA has been on roughly the right track for some years now - it is more than just the current effort.
Their successes, or lack of them, are due to an unproductive string of Ministers in a constantly changing government, regular changes in the structure of the racing boards, and the current nonsense where three codes are chucked into the one basket with minimal greyhound influence and a peculiar bent to let the trots off the hook.
But, leaving aside the current mess for a moment, Qld greyhounds have been in decline for well over a decade now under various administrations, including for a long time a three-person board made up solely of greyhound people. None of these mixtures made any impact at all on the problem - negative growth. That they got by at all was probably due to periodic boosts from great dogs - ie Flying Amy, Just the Best and so on. But the fundamentals never changed.
QGBOTA are dead right in seeking - demanding? - a talk with the Minister but they must get their story and their solutions well organised first. Top of the list is to point out that years of management-by-committee has failed to deliver the goods - so get rid of it and assign responsibility to a lively, commercially oriented group able to act independently.
As for "We are not dirt bags" - well, maybe not, but the public think you are, which is all that counts politically. That public will point to the dozen or so Queenslanders who were chucked out of the industry for life (or should have been), including some top rung trainers. In the final analysis, the public will tell the Minister how high he should jump. So convince them first.

Qld Racing Office Advisors(bureaucrats)that's who the racing minister will tell the QGBOTA to arrange a meeting with, are all thoroughbred orientated and are well aware of the discrimination,a complete waste of effort.going over their heads to the anti discrimination commission is the only chance of getting any justice.

Kev,
That would be QCAT (Qld Civil and Administrative Appeals Tribunal) which embraces anti-discrimination etc. I believe it has ruled on greyhound matters in the past - mainly suspensions and the like.
It is not a lawyer-required deal but you may well need to use one beforehand and it would also be preferable that the application came from an organisation.
The puzzle I see is that decisions on such things as commission splits and later prize money are made by RQ on which greyhounds are represented - whether well or badly is in the eye of the beholder. What you can't be sure about is how much the politicians got involved.
Consequently, the Minister's defence will be (a) it's not me, it's RQ and (b) greys had their opportunity to protest within RQ but were outvoted (or whatever).
NSW had/has the same problem but lost out because the industry signed its life away 17 years ago.
So did SA but they managed to negotiate their way thru it because the Minister sponsored/allowed fairer turnover-related distribution. In fact, the gov consultant recommended greys actual takeover administration of the trots - but it never happened.
But, yes, it is the Minister or nothing.

RQ announcement... EXTERNAL LINK I'm interested in the QGBOTA's response to this one.
Without trying to sound unappreciative, unsurprisingly, it is still way, way short of the mark, in many ways.
With interest, the Thoroughbreds (the sport of kings) receive prize money for 1st - 5th placed, with the new revision seeing more equal distribution over those placings. That makes sense to me - more people getting more much needed funds = healthier industry.
WHY CAN'T THEY SEE THE SAME SENSE IN A SIMILAR STRUCTURE FOR GREYHOUNDS (the battler's sport), at least bring back the 4th placing p/money? YOU SEE THE BENEFIT IN KEEPING THE THOROUGHBRED INDUSTRY HEALTHY - DO THE SAME FOR THE GREYHOUND INDUSTRY!!!! If you didn't notice...IT'S SICK!!!!
The sad fact with QLD Greyhounds is that only 60% of all prize money remains in this state. If you don't believe me, do the sums - I have. That does not promote a healthy local industry. The massive chunk 40% of monies mainly go to NSW participants racing here. Thank God they do come because without them, we would have been racing 3 days a week long ago. Not surprising, it works out that they also make up approx 40% of runners each week. My point is not to discourage interstate dogs but to encourage more LOCAL GROWTH and REWARD by implementing Q-BRED incentives. I have a feeling the 800k sustainability measures will include some sort of breeding incentive but I reckon it's going to take a lot more than 800k or part of to turn around the 60% downturn in breeding.
Personally, I think the $40 starters fee is great - it should never have been taken away - it's unhealthy. Stop playing with it and leave it be! As pathetic as that sounds in 2018, every little bit helps and people only get money if their dog is placed, so 5/8 people walk away with nothing. Forget the creative accounting and pay it on course. The prior illusion of giving $5 extra and taking away from placed did nothing for the industry at all. Paying on course helps the industry's eco-system remain healthy!
The 10% increase in prize money is giving back 1/3rd of what was unreasonably taken away from participants...there is still 2/3rds withheld. It is NOT an increase, it's a claytons. A decrease of a negative sum is still the colour red. The retrospective 10s of millions pillaged from the industry over the last few years will never be returned and it's criminal. The least that should happen is the rightful prize money level be restored NOW, because in reality, RQ won't be paying that full amount anyway with reduction in races now a formality. No more creative accounting!!!
There needs to be MASSIVE changes to the grading rules in conjunction with this announcement for any significant turn around of the industry. They need to be big and decisive. A good start would be the abolishment of the stupid 3 consecutive unplaced runs ruling to drop a grade. It works down south, but RQ refuse to allow it here?
Anyway, just my thoughts. I am appreciative of any increase and thank you, RQ, BUT, think of the WHOLE industry while we still have one.(plus give the industry back ALL that has been taken away..it's in the books somewhere...)
There's an old saying..."You don't appreciate what you've got until it's gone." There might be an even bigger black hole appearing if Greyhounds go.

If the 2010-2012 membership had not been blind dumb sheep, the recalcitrant ex president and her useless treasurer would never have been allowed to waste $50,000 of hard earned QGBOTA funds, and the QGBOTA would be in a far better position fight this discrimination.

Just my opinion, but this is a real boost. It is a clever way to give breeding a boost. Incentives to get dogs in boxes. And prize money, appearance money, increases to reward trainers who have been doing it tough for the last 2 years. We still have a way to go, but its a start. We still may not have market share, but were heading in a better direction. I have to say thank you to RQ for the reward. Its long overdue and welcomed. Also by receiving this good news, I feel that they are not trying to shut us down, which was a major concern all along.

After reading BOTH releases now, I agree with you. It's a nice well rounded incentive package. Well done to the folks at RQ and to you guys at QGBOTA whom I'm sure had the hammer at their desks.
I'm not going to be pedantic and pick anything with it, as you say, it's a start and a great start in the right direction...FINALLY!
There certainly is much more to be achieved to get us back to somewhere near pre Feb 2015 and hopefully everyone will get behind the QGBOTA and make it happen.
Thanks to all involved.
I have to go...study for my next breeding plan.
Tally ho.

Sid, totally agree with your summary reviewed greyhound situation, yes no market share(clip clops harness keeps greyhounds)which is almost 20 percent less than when Bentley redistributed prize money after the product co agreement expired, greyhound welfare NOT addressed with no $10,000,000 replacement one turn track in sight since September 2008,a bloody joke.

Might be a bit off topic. But it would of been good if blokes like Jonathan Brown (AFL Lions) had stuck around to defend the Qld dogs when the going got tough. You'll no doubt get played in an election promise/pork barreling exercise that will amount to nothing again.

I am with you Simon, I had a signature of this bloke. I respected him on and off the field. But first sigh of trouble this bloke tucked tail and ran. I lost all respect for him. Listening talk footy about getting hard, sorry weak as cheese.
