RQ announcement...

I'm interested in the QGBOTA's response to this one.

Without trying to sound unappreciative, unsurprisingly, it is still way, way short of the mark, in many ways.

With interest, the Thoroughbreds (the sport of kings) receive prize money for 1st - 5th placed, with the new revision seeing more equal distribution over those placings.
That makes sense to me - more people getting more much needed funds = healthier industry.

WHY CAN'T THEY SEE THE SAME SENSE IN A SIMILAR STRUCTURE FOR GREYHOUNDS (the battler's sport), at least bring back the 4th placing p/money?
YOU SEE THE BENEFIT IN KEEPING THE THOROUGHBRED INDUSTRY HEALTHY - DO THE SAME FOR THE GREYHOUND INDUSTRY!!!! If you didn't notice...IT'S SICK!!!!

The sad fact with QLD Greyhounds is that only 60% of all prize money remains in this state.
If you don't believe me, do the sums - I have.
That does not promote a healthy local industry.
The massive chunk 40% of monies mainly go to NSW participants racing here.
Thank God they do come because without them, we would have been racing 3 days a week long ago.
Not surprising, it works out that they also make up approx 40% of runners each week.
My point is not to discourage interstate dogs but to encourage more LOCAL GROWTH and REWARD by implementing Q-BRED incentives.
I have a feeling the 800k sustainability measures will include some sort of breeding incentive but I reckon it's going to take a lot more than 800k or part of to turn around the 60% downturn in breeding.

Personally, I think the $40 starters fee is great - it should never have been taken away - it's unhealthy. Stop playing with it and leave it be!
As pathetic as that sounds in 2018, every little bit helps and people only get money if their dog is placed, so 5/8 people walk away with nothing.
Forget the creative accounting and pay it on course.
The prior illusion of giving $5 extra and taking away from placed did nothing for the industry at all.
Paying on course helps the industry's eco-system remain healthy!

The 10% increase in prize money is giving back 1/3rd of what was unreasonably taken away from participants...there is still 2/3rds withheld.
It is NOT an increase, it's a claytons. A decrease of a negative sum is still the colour red.
The retrospective 10s of millions pillaged from the industry over the last few years will never be returned and it's criminal.
The least that should happen is the rightful prize money level be restored NOW, because in reality, RQ won't be paying that full amount anyway with reduction in races now a formality.
No more creative accounting!!!

There needs to be MASSIVE changes to the grading rules in conjunction with this announcement for any significant turn around of the industry.
They need to be big and decisive.
A good start would be the abolishment of the stupid 3 consecutive unplaced runs ruling to drop a grade.
It works down south, but RQ refuse to allow it here?

Anyway, just my thoughts.
I am appreciative of any increase and thank you, RQ, BUT, think of the WHOLE industry while we still have one.(plus give the industry back ALL that has been taken away..it's in the books somewhere...)

There's an old saying..."You don't appreciate what you've got until it's gone."
There might be an even bigger black hole appearing if Greyhounds go.

We don't appreciate whats been stolen until it's returned, and we don't need relocated tracks, just the stolen one turn track replaced with the $10,000,000 grant Racing Qld was given in 2010.

Only thing I'll be topping up this year, TJ is the rearing yards...full of QLD champions.
After the big mariwiggiama burn off up the road from the recent bust, the ones in there need replacing.
They have literally started climbing trees.
Not a good look.

Challenge to GA rule changes.

EXTERNAL LINK

"The explanation continues that oral electrolyte only acceptable if voluntarily drunk or eaten,
however this seems to be superfluous advise, not relevant to the rules."

So the GA proposal is that if your dog does not voluntarily consume electrolytes, it is ILLEGAL to put some in a syringe and put it on its tongue. So, the dog MUST GO WITHOUT!!!!

GA, the controlling body of an animal racing industry, prohibits the practice of proper husbandry to an animal that would be administered by any professional Doctor or Veterinarian for the same purpose?!?!?!?!?

I really am lost for words.
When you think the world cannot get any crazier, it does.
Would there be some people out in the real world who would consider this rule to be not only illegal, but may constitute animal cruelty?

What I would like to know is... WHO is the individual that wrote it and why has GA adopted it?
The time has surely come where a proposal such as this, and some others, really do need to be investigated and exposed.
More importantly, the people responsible for these proposals need to be held accountable and publicly questioned.

It's out of control and has to stop.

Well done QGBOTA for challenging some of these proposals.
The challenge needs to be a national one and the need for accountability and professional competence DEMANDED!
Better still, unanimous vote of no confidence and disbandment.

Could everyone please click on this link and VOTE AGAINST THE GA PROPOSALS!!!!

It's really important that the message gets through that the industry will no longer tolerate ill informed and non-consulted proposals of rules where the implications may be a detriment to our animals.

The next step is to send a message to your state authority strongly but politely voicing your disapproval on the grounds of WELFARE, the very thing GA are supposed to be in charge of.

COMPLETELY UNBELIEVABLE.

Some very good post's Michael.
Over 80 swabs at one meeting (THAT WOULD BE A RECORD)AND NO POSITIVES, EXCELLENT.
WE SHOULD BE GETTING LOVE LETTERS FROM THE RSPCA.
But not a word said while the GEE GEES are running for cover over the MILKSHAKES (SODIUM BICARBONATE) IT WILL ALL BE UNDER THE CARPET.

This is REALLY REALLY IMPORTANT.
Could everyone send in your protest to RQ re: GA AMENDMENTS.

They want to make you believe the rules arent really changing...THEN WHY AMEND THEM!?!?
If they make no difference to our normal routine...WHY BRING THEM IN!?
Who determines abnormal and unusual rates?
How do they quantify that?
There are many issues at stake here, do not be blindsided by innocuous amendments.
This is taking away your ability to use your expertise in animal husbandry, maintenance, and special care for your dogs!
Do not allow this to happen...you have to voice your opinion.
If you don't, the amendments will go through and it will be TOO LATE!
We have until 26th February

Send your submissions to RQ.
Do not let these people decide your future any longer.

You have an opportunity to make a difference...NOW!

Steve,
I can't remember EVER reading about a whole meeting of ANY sport being swabbed.
So yes, you would think a Guinness Book Record has been made.
What a great opportunity for authorities to shout that out to the world and that not one single positive was found from this record breaking exercise...nope.

Happy stories don't sell, Steve.
