The welfare committee, which met for the first time yesterday (Thursday), has been established by the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission to provide advice on animal welfare policies.

The welfare committee includes animal welfare expert Tanya Stephens, RSPCA NSW representative, Andrew Clachers, NSW Acting Chief Veterinary Officer Samantha Allan, greyhound industry participant Sandro Bechini and Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) representative Brenton Scott.

Congratulations on your appointment Sandro, i hope the other Committee members are willing to listen to a Participant with many years of experience. I believe all Committee members were required to sign a confidentiality clause, not surprised !

Noel it is well known that Scott has been seeking a position within GRNSW for some time.
IMO Scott would now have to resign from the GBOTA because a conflict of interest would exist.

Mark,

If it is advisory only, it will be of limited value, going on past experience.

Either way, if a confidentiality clause is needed, its value can be heavily reduced. The lack of transparency is the industry's biggest problem today.

Double all that for a CEO with no animal or greyhound experience. I could wear that for the commercial organisation but not for policing integrity. That occurred in Queensland and got them into all sorts of trouble.

In Victoria the ICG (Industry Consulting Group) also signed confidentiality Agreements.

Perfect example of how not to be transparent. All this headed up by the CEO and all selectively chosen for their willingness to be compliant to GRV.

Does anyone know what they have been discussing for (a guess) the last 2 years. I have heard about some going on's at these gatherings so the agreements have been broken.

I guess we might know when this lot are gone (current gang) or by freedom of information act in the future.

From the corrupt stewards in the 60's and 70's to the way participants have been treated since the live baiting fiasco, the US and THEM mentality remains alive and healthy.

They have no intention to be power sharing, they only demonstrate power over and these closed door tactics are proof that this GRV culture is alive and well, until November that is!

Oh, a few million dollars per year spent on the welfare of greyhounds. Gee, the Greens and Lib/Nats will be happy with the costs of proposing and planning for the caring of greyhounds when its not their monies. If its the integrity of participants ..... well have a look inwardly.

Hopefully Sandro's role is not a token one so they are seen to be doing the right thing. He is obviously out numbered so we can only we get a fair go.

I don't know Sandro but I hope he is the committee to ruffle some feathers and say what he thinks from an industry participants view point

Sandro is a good man, very good, but running against the grain in political situations and appointments has a short lived history and is usually terminal! Unfortunately.

Hopefully, in this case, that is not the end result and good outcomes are the result.

Does this committee have the pull to request participant input on specific policy evaluations. I hope so.
If not, they may be seen as hidden window dressing, especially with the confidentiality clause.

That's exactly what they are! They will advise only, no clout, just window dressing so the PTB can say they consulted. Joke

Perhaps it's time to introduce a Committee to oversee the PROTECTION OF PARTICIPANTS INVESTMENTS, INTERESTS, INTEGRITY & WELFARE! Just one more wont hurt? Lets call it POOF, Protection Of Owners Finances.

TJ,

Absolutely correct.

I feel that Lib/Nat has created another business arm for themselves by employing people for GRNSW who are suitable to them and not us, thereby influencing GRNSW with their political propaganda and agenda. As a result, they generally ignore and fail working class and hobby groups across the State by over-spending without accountability.

Just another Insurance Policy Mark! You'd think they have been watching to many episodes of the Untouchables. Would be funny but unfortunately its at our expense and future.

Congrats Sandro on your appointment.
We have now at least someone who we know is genuine about the welfare of the industry in a position to speak the truth.

I just have a few suggestions Sandro, if I may...

1. Take up a martial art.

2. Start toughening your forehead by headbutting a bucket of sand, then progress to a brick wall.

3. Take a long stick with chewing gum attached to the end with you when you attend meetings.
When they slyly throw suggestions in the bin you can then retrieve them with your stick and re-present.

4. Learn the art of talking in tongues.

It's a challenging task and even if you get just one thing invoked, you're a winner.

Good luck, Sandro san.

Doesnt the appointment of Brenton Scott, the CEO of the GBOTA, to the GWIC Welfare Committee, effectively muzzle the GBOTA from making any response to future recommendations made by the Welfare Committee ? All committee members have allegedly signed a confidentiality agreement.
