Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) today announced it will increase travel subsidies to race participants for both TAB and non-TAB race meetings from May 1, 2018.

GRNSW Chief Executive Officer Tony Mestrov said for TAB race meetings the subsidy would increase from $40 to $60 for the first runner and from $20 to $30 for each runner thereafter.

At non-TAB race meetings the subsidy will increase from $20 to $60 for the first runner and from $20 to $30 for each runner thereafter.

Mr Mestrov said the increase will be paid until 31st December, 2018 as it is subject to review by GRNSW to ensure it aligns with GRNSWs strategic plan and priorities.

Malcolm,

It's something I advocated to GRNSW when we were asked to do the online survey about three months ago ?? I imagine many others felt the same way.

I felt that it didn't matter where we took our dogs it was still going to cost us the same amount to produce a race for the industry.

No dogs, No races, No meeting, No industry.

It's an injection for the trainer and the non-TAB `battler'.

Thank you for posting.

Great Injection for the non/tab sector! Someone needs to tell Tony that 5 years ago you'd receive $120 for 3 dogs at a TAB B meeting.
($40 per/dog) He hasn't quite reinvented the wheel yet.

Yes Terry, it was reduced dramatically, but now its equal for one dog trainers, even if it isnt better for trainers who have more than one dog. However, I get your point about how it used to be.

Prize money should be increased next.

Great that tab and non tab allowances have come into line.If this is actually a "subsidy" non tab winners should again regain the purse they were receiving before non tab travel allowance started.
This would see the tracks that could only afford $210 a win going back to the kings ransom of $300 a win.

It's not $100 per dog in Victoria.

Travel and Starters Fees remain at their current levels of $70 per trainer and an additional $10 per starter at all meetings.

Ray: The one thing we here in NSW are interested in is Vics COP. As we are about to Feel the impact of the onerous much disputed McHugh Report which still has never passed the sniff test. Yet we are to enact almost all proposals as Positive outcomes for our future? Simply Deplorable! Mike admitted he got it Wrong! FACT! Most of his Mistakes surrounded around the McHugh Report. IMO
Gladys & Toole continue Mike's legacy of closing the Industry down. What has changed under this Govt since Mike's departure? Other than More Boards, Committee's, Regulators, Commissioners, etc? HUGH BUDGET BLOWOUT! No extra GAP Centres, No Centres of excellence, Record No of Cancelled meetings, due to Incompetence (Track Harrowing on unprecedented levels) Weather never a problem apparently when Harrowing! Unproven Welfare Issues with drink/containers on race day, Ditto Heat policy with Air/Con Vehicle's, Grading has been Ignored for far to long. Masters & Pathways racing the PRIORITIES for GRNSW. How much LONGER are we expected to keep copping PUNISHMENT for the actions of just a few. BOTH Qld, & Vic had worse video/footage then NSW. They have moved on with Positive actions now after 3 years since the Live/Baiting. With Breeding Incentives, Prizemoney Increases etc, We ONCE the dominate State are dragging the Chain Gleefully.

Looks like Mr Mestrov is doing some maths. He now knows that 55% of dogs that raced last year earnt between $0 and $1000.
This wouldn't even cover the feed bill.
He needs to let the public and the racing minister know the truth, that we are being financially crippled, regardless of what the antis are preaching.

you guys are very lucky to get any run money, we pay to race here. Everything comes out of our own pocket and very little goes back in. but i love it, its my hobby. if it was seen as a job or to make money i would be well broke.

Dean: Your officials had the chance many years ago now, to Institute a TAB system similar to what we have here in Aust. They declined! We over here cant understand how you survive with Poor prizemoney and very little incentives.

NSW is a big State to travel around mate.

It's self-funded and there will be winners and losers in NSW.

We have GWIC and changes to GRNSW that will take up the bulk of the admin costs allocated to the industry and we will never see a return on its investment because it's a complete over-reaction by the Lib/Nat Coalition. The funds could have been properly funnelled elsewhere such as, looking after our injured and retired dogs and prize money increases.

It's difficult to compare the UK with NSW when there are so many variables and differences. Therefore, a generalisation is not fair and shouldn't be used even anecdotally.

Are we `lucky' ? Most participants don't think so and I agree with them. Some participants are leaving the industry and it's not through natural attrition. The Gov't `banned' us from racing only 18 months ago. How `lucky' are we that we fought back, and are still fighting for a fair share.

It's all just a minor sweetener for when they close down more tracks & everyone's got to travel further to race.
Next GRNSW will bring out the new "small hoops" trainers will have to jump through to keep their licences. Only a few months away until our "bonus" time of licensing is up.

Will be interesting to see the reactions of the country tracks,
as they already struggle to achieve a decent win pool, now the
implication of increased travel money will surely test them.

Hi Brett Bob Glover here, I pointed out many moons ago that the 12 mth free licence was so wwe were not under any financial agreement what so ever , and this put us in a position that we would not be able to protest regs, and rule changes put in our faces, what is terribly wrong with their e.g of trainers that have to travel long distances, 500 kms etc for cost of $80 , is that the trainer that lives two doors from the track is now going to get same allowance? It should have been and always as well , worked on the horse system of a mileage allowance . no horses/ and distance traveled ?? And totally agree this will bring the next step of closing tracks ,with out any protest. a cushion-er exactly as every body knows, What about getting on with Grading /Prize money Track Rebuilds that have been on the burner for ever and a day promised, but if this initiative, came from T Mestrov as the memo says, well good on him for a start,: on a positive at least ,,Bob Glover /
