Bruce your right for once, the new track there that was built and came out wider onto where the trot track was in the straight, did not do a lot for what was spent $$ I had dreams that lead to arguments as why they wouldn't move the dog track onto the trotting track completely ? Was a better track in size and radius than H.P.and came down the straight exactly where the dog track does now .. But all I can ask is they hurry up and get something finished so we can see the colour of your money again ?? Bob Glover

Is Gosford over-budget ? $700,000 is a lot to pay for a reconstruction of a track. It sounds like the Government all over.

Bob,
There was minimal movement into the trotting track but in practice there was not room to build an HP even if they wanted to. Anyway, at the time they were still wrangling with the lease supposedly held by the trotting bloke.
Also involved were the location of the drive machinery hut and general limitations to encroachments into the broader area behind that hut.
A related issue is that going for a more expansive layout would move much of the racing further away from spectators or camera.
But never mind that - the key is the detail of the first turn design. It does not work well. Of course the 400m start should have been pushed around to near the hut but GBOTA rejected that suggestion some months before rebuilding commenced. I know that because it was me who made the suggestion - in detail and in writing - after reviewing proposed engineering plans.

I was told today that it is on track for a late May early June re-opening. They are currently waiting on GRNSW rubber stamping the new camber design.

UPDATE:
Was there today and there is no visible indication of any substantial work being done since my last photos except some black irrigation pipe being delivered (probably for the new track watering system). There is no conceivable way it could re-open in May given that the track needs to be re-cambered, the sand put back, perimeter fences re-erected, slabs put in for the boxes and then the boxes returned.

Update: Gosford still is the same as it was when I last gave a status update. No work is being undertaken. I understand that the additional funding which was promised by GRNSW has not eventuated and that the person who was to make those funds available, a Mr Whittaker, has been moved in the restructuring. The granting of additional funding to perform the track upgrade has to be reheard and approved by the board (which I assume is the GRNSW board). I called GRNSW and am waiting for a call back from Bill Wilson, the track maintenance manager for GRNSW to answer my questions regarding the lack of progress at Gosford.
I have heard via rumour that the Government has earmarked Gosford for attrition and that the reluctance to further fund improvements may be a strategy towards this end. Naturally, parties with a vested interest may vehemently state otherwise, but I think the time for participants to kick and scream is now rather than months down the track.

Anyone know how long the Geebots lease at Gosford has to run. They can't just call it attrition -they have to buy out the remainder of the lease. This is what Baird was trying to do-get WP & 16 show grounds for zilch. I believe our present Premier is trying to do the same & if the present Management want to keep their jobs they will do exactly what their told to do by Iemma. Its time the GBOTA showed some guts & funded the extra $150,000 & then pursue GRNSW for it.

I heard (hearsay) that the Gosford Trust was asking the GBOTA Gosford Branch how much the land is worth because City or NSW Rail is interested in the land.
That would mean the recent expenditure on the track near $1 Million would be another waste of some of our money. I thought it was suppose to survive the rationalisation process ??

Terry, I agree. One of your best.
Some writers are too busy writing and dont have enough time to properly read other posts. I have to look up that last word so I have homework to do.
