Absolutely fantastic Jim. It certainly shows how good the dog was and how popular greyhound racing was then.

Tony I started going to Harold Park in the early 70's and Wenty occasionally ...... buzzing.
Bookies would take a bet because of the competition and the big crowds meant plenty of money in the markets.
Those years were the games peak , plunges were pulled off and quiet trips 2 plus hours home as well.
Saw Zoom Top go round twice she was .....no words to describe it adequately. I was only a kid then in mid 60's but I was hooked.

Hi Jim, I was there almost every week during this period. I remember mum and dad would give me a place to meet after every race as the crowds were incredible. The bookmakers were shoulder to shoulder and I don't think it would have been possible to fit more in. It really was a great era and yes once the sport is in your blood it's there for life.

Never saw Black top race, being a very young Victorian .As good as a race Dog he was,IMHO it was at stud he made his name all over Australia,he realy was a super sire.I trained a BT that was going to be some thing special before he smashed him self in a trial and had to be put down.Looking back this pup could have been the would have made me a full time trainer, but as we all know that's racing.

Ah those were the Days Jim! Some Great Video stories there. What about Chips presenting the Winning Cheque, then lighting up a Ciggie immediately. Poor bugger would be crucified today!

Great video. Great dog. Great track. I remember the days as a young bloke in the 70s and 80s going to HP. The atmosphere was electric. Certainly days I will never forget.

Thanks Jim,
Certainly stirs the memory, like you said two great Australian
Icons. The dogs were loved before, then, and now.
Pity the downplay of the industry relied on overseas crap, and
the few cruel monkeys who were caught.
