I got this in a tweet, sad and true. GRV why not take RVL to task and Peter V'landys I guess this does not happen in NSW. In dogs there are just some that will not adjust but the horse is a different beast!

Sick of the PTB turning a blind eye to suit themselves. Hey Pakula what about this......

This is so sad. I suppose greyhound racing is an easy target for the the antis, because they are really going to town in the UK and it will not be long before they start on us, here in Ireland.

"Why has Greyhound racing been singled out!"

1. Because Greyhounds are DOGS and most people can relate and have sympathy for dogs.
Most people have an emotional attachment to dogs.

2. Because of past treatment of Greyhounds as a disposable commodity.
There were no real adoption strategies put in place by authorities and although wastage figures were distorted by some, the ammunition given to antis created public disdain and political panic.

3. Because Greyhounds became the "IN" thing for people to jump on the bandwagon and achieve personal, political, career, and monetary GAIN.
With the ease to manipulate emotional responses from people, the Greyhound is a WINNER to sell papers, extort money, get votes, or gain attention for those who never had any before.

4. Because compared to the other codes the Greyhound industry is held accountable and all figures are transparent.
The other two codes are not, hence the truth is hidden while our industry is being manipulated to fail.

5. WE ARE THE WEAKEST LINK in racing.
Doesn't need to be that way if we all band together and fund our own defence.

6. BECAUSE WE WON'T.

Heres something they could protest about.
They don't want racing greyhounds to exist (it's better for the racing dogs if they were never born) is their thinking as I understand it.

I find most of them tweets hard to believe only because you can go to any meat supplier on a Monday morning and they will complain about the horses that have been snuck into a paddock or tied to the front gate over the weekend.

it would be a trouble making green making up stories as they go and I wouldn't be using this as a defence for greyhounds because most of it would be fairytales.

I have no doubt that retired horses are going into pet meat, but they have their ids removed and get dumped. they don't go through auctions where the seller has to answer to why they are getting rid of the horse.

Chas,

Impressive, but I would not be using this as ammunition because we can't be sure of motives and authenticity.

What it does do is to highlight the need to obtain and keep current euthanasia rates for all animals, whether racers, other working dogs or pets. That would provide perspective.

The reason they don't have to answer is because when most horses are finished racing or they are not good enough They are to large to keep in ones back yard so were they go does'nt seem to matter,

There are some historic 'other reason ' why greyhounds have captured the limelight that we may be overlooking

theres an old saying - the only thing you can be sure about with a retired racehorse is that it will end up as a turd on someone front lawn
