Hayden, As a casual visitor to Melbourne during Adam Wallish' time I had cause to jump on a tram. I had looked without success for a ticketing machine at the tram stop, and inside the tram itself. Nothing. So I got off a few stops later, leaving the Treasury light on. I wonder how many are like me? There must be millions of dollars involved (inspectors or not). I later discovered there were central points where you could buy a pass but who is to know that? I know the locals love their trams but I find them a blot on the landscape as they alienate half the city streets and hold up vehicle traffic. By comparison, there is no way you could do the above on Sydney buses and on the trains you risk a very hefty fine - and then only by jumping the turnstile. Trams and racing are commercial operations - a quid is a quid.
