Mark,

This race is not about regional racing. This is about announcing to the world that racing in Australia is alive and well. It is a great answer to all that we have been though and it makes a statement to the world.

I now spend most of my time in mainland Europe and until this race came along a lot believed racing had ended in NSW and other states. This was due to the international coverage of greyhound racing being stopped. The announcement of this race has done a lot to internationally overcome this view and it really is something all Australians should support.

Yes there are many local issues that need addressing but connecting them to this race is not the way to go.

This race is being looked at internationally and in my opinion should be treated as an opportunity to impress the world.

Bathurst heats were quite strong but other tracks the entries are very disappointing especially Wagga & Bulli.

The race is attracting plenty of publicity but half the articles have been negative so far. Lets hope the build up to the race is exciting & positive & attracts interest in the sport particularly among young people.

Terry, you simply don't get it. The money has been put into a million dollar race and no matter what you do or what anyone else does this will not change. Jumping up and down saying the money could of fixed this problem or that problem won't change it.

We have a million dollar race that is going to take place, this gives everyone two options:

1. Support it and try to get as much positive promotion for Greyhounds in Australia and/or worldwide or,

2. Not support it and complain about it.

Sorry Terry I will go with option 1 and try to get as much mileage out of it I can to promote greyhounds both in Australia and on the international scene.

" Grant even though you are only seeing the details of this race on greyhound websites it is seen throughout the world. Greyhound-Data alone has members in 61 countries "

That does sweet bugger all for the sport here...so what if they know of it 17,000 kms away...Not going to do anything for them over there, only thing is, most will lose their hard earned on not backing the winner with the betting agencies...I'd be VERY surprised if even 1 major overseas USA ; UK, TV station, other than a sports one, runs the story...It's an out and out political stunt to shore up country votes...which won't work and Labor won't put $500,000 in when their elected next election...It will ONLY be supported by those already in the sport and a few more who turn up on the night, who won't be there the following Saturday...

Where Robert, do you see the box draw being done...???

I ask because, the Gallops have their big Golden Slipper draw in Martin Place, well they have done...MASSIVE PUBLICITY...

I'll bet you 'we' ( or TPTB ) keep well away from something like that...

Sometimes Tony, I don't think you get it.

Let's see how `hard times ahead' will impact NSW !

In the meantime, let's see how the million dollar chase pans out.

Terry,

You and your "Agree" crowd are changing the subject. In any event, most of your points are either irrelevant or highly debatable. Whatever, they are not related to the million dollar race.

For a start, we can be fairly confident this is not a GRNSW initiative but a brainwave coming out of the Minister's office (he controls the use of unclaimed TAB dividends). So grab it and run.

And get accurate - only 25 millionaires in India - try adding some noughts. 3rd World??? With nuclear weapons, huge influence on Oz trade, top class cricketers, massive finance input for Oz universities, ownership of Oz businesses, plus call centres for Oz telcos and airlines.

I hear talk about negative publicity - where? I have seen nothing but good publicity.

The more important point is what GRNSW does to leverage the huge and rare publicity given to greyhound racing into even better things in the future. I am not sure how GRNSW would do that - it's not in their DNA.

Martin Place is probably not wise as might be more protesters than participants. Maybe at Wenty with a live cross from Ch 7 news

Yes Bruce, I made an error! meant to state 25 Million, Millionaires in India.
Bruce the GBOTA were talking of a Million Dollar race around 18 months ago Fact. I had a debate over this with a GBOTA Director.
Where is this HUGH & RARE publicity Bruce? Certainly not on Provincial TV Networks.
What Bruce are GRNSW doing to PROMOTE, INCENTIVISE, Breeders to Breed the next "Million" dollar dog. (Which will probably go to Victoria).
Biggest race in the World? But only Aust Dogs!
Any way Bruce how does all this affect you? You don't Own, Breed, Race any Greyhounds! Your just a Poor Old Disgruntled Punter! Thats your DNA.......Might get a few AGREE'S

Hi Mark, I definitely get it. If this thread was about distribution of funds or managing racing into the future in NSW then all the points raised by Terry, you and others would be very important and no doubt this will come up after this race.

Mark, we can only play with the cards we are dealt. It is better to choose a fight that can be won. This race is going ahead no matter how many posts go onto Greyhound-Data or other social media.

Tony I don't think we influence anyone at GRNSW. G'Data is a great forum to vent your spleen. If we were desperate for the PTB to read our posts, Facebook would be the chosen media outlet, Most Pollies and CEO's are obsessed with positive feedback. (I detest FB) TJ

Terry,

In the last week the SMH - noted for its sympathy for Greens' views and with an anti-greyhound background - has run at least two blocks of comment on the Million dollar race. It also got the headlines a couple of times.

2. Experience tells me to take no notice of anything GBOTA says.

3. Promotion - that's more or less what I have said several times.

4. Numerically, the vast majority of people interested in this sport neither "Own, Breed or Race" a greyhound. Would you rubbish them all? If you did, the sport would no longer exist.

5. Your spelling, grammar, punctuation and use of capitals is appalling. Please try harder. Your message then will have more impact.

From a poor, old, but relatively happy ex-punter, analyst and writer of 1,000-plus articles in six greyhound publications and several mentions in official reports and inquiries over 25 years, all of which invited me to contribute - to someone who has "Dogs 0/Races 0".

PS: I say "relatively" because I am not willingly an "ex-punter" but one who has been railroaded out of the game as the betting and racing sectors have been progressively stuffed. But I live in hope.

Hello, HELLO..

That's my point...

In this atmosphere...GRNSW, GBOTA, NSW Gov; A dog race for $1,000,000...

Equals...A BIG fan with truck loads of *hit...

Hence...feck all publicity in the main...

Terry,

I can see you are not interested in what the world around you is doing but, nevertheless, I have to comment on one item.

I subscribe to the SMH for (a) sport coverage and (b) to see what the other half is saying about all sorts of subjects, including dog racing. In terms of bias, the SMH is actually far worse than the ABC. Know your enemy!

However, it is funny that my "drivel" is copied/pirated all around Oz and the world, usually to applause, and has even been quoted by Grey2K and translated into Finnish.

NB: when you say "Your a Neville Nobody!", you really mean "You're a Neville Nobody". Concentrate!
