Terry,
Funny you should mention that. A long while ago I did put my name forward. In the event, I did not get to first base (not a surprise).

However, had I succeeded my first effort would have been to tell the Minister (Face at the time) that I could not do the job unless he first canned the management-by-committee concept and instead created a more conventional or commercial structure, including lots of authority and responsibility changes.

Bureaucracies should never run commercial businesses.

Bruce.
I was being flippant with my request.
However I do feel you are exactly the right type of candidate they are seeking.
A Paul Newson alta ego type, one who could make changes on an almost daily basis.
Constant new rules and regulations, to keep all participants bamboozled and under pressure adjusting and complying.

Bureaucracies should never run commercial businesses.
Bureaucracies should never sell OUR UTILITIES that make HUGH profits, that ADVANTAGE'S us all.

Lots of Authority and responsibility changes = EMPIRE BUILDING.

Terry,

Thankyou - so was I to some extent. Nevertheless, my card is marked.

Anyway the task needs lively, younger business types. A bit of racing knowledge would help but is not essential.

You then digress - but bureaucracies did not sell the utilities, governments did and featherbedding was reduced.

Note that Newson is no longer in the racing and gaming field, or not directly. He is wandering around in key areas as Gladys works out how to set up all the revised departments. Still, although he made some blues, he at least recognised where the industry's shortcomings were.

Bruce Paul Newson led us down the garden path, " yes we could use dead frozen ,properly dressed rabbits, then a change , had to be tanned skins " then people that were complying to these words of his are canned ,for not knowing his changes of thoughts ?? Iwill stand and defend these words because I have copied them from his and GRNSW memo's , Will be happy to add more when we have more solar , Bob Glover

Bob,

As I said, "he made some blues". I stand to be corrected but I thought your other quotes related to pre-Newson days. Either way, the final position was made clear.
