Is this for real?

'I am accompanied today by Denis Healy, Veterinary Director of the Irish Greyhound Board and wish to offer apologies on behalf of our CEO, Gerard Dollard who due to a long-standing commitment, is unavoidably absent.'

The quick fix to the situation is always on the Greyhound man their is 16 million going to the Greyhound industry every year 13 to the board and 3 to the rest...our intire plat form out side the igb office has to survive on 3 million and out of this they have decided to rise their fees ect and ask sponsors to also give a hand in the rehoming crisis...but not one mention in a pay reduction from them... how about 5 million to the industry 3 million to rehoming and 8 million to the board problem solved...the people in our industry have year in year out put up with increase rises in fees and decrease in prize money surly to God it's time for the board to take a hit...

Well said Brian, continually asking the owners and trainers to dig into their pockets when they are already struggling can only end one way. More people leaving the sport.

I really could not believe a government funded body would be asking for donations. This tells us two thing, that they do not think this new idea is going to work and they have no idea what it will cost. 16 million should be more than enough if restructuring came from within the organisation.

From what I can gather from posts on this site it is taking 13 m overheads to run a 3 m business. The Irish greyhound board need to get real of 16 m 81.25% going on overheads 18.75% going to the business (the greyhound people). Now the dogs in the street (excuse the pun) would know that couldn't work.
Oh in case you thought i had forgotten about welfare I have 4 retied in the kennel happy as LARRY.

I'm asking is there anybody out there who can draft a semi-legal document to bring RTE to task as the program IMHO contravenes all aspects of the broadcasting acts.

We need the IGB to publish a strong worded statement directing it straight at RTE without further delay, the Chairman of the IGB can draft a legal document, they are quick enough to send out legal letters to others for a lot less.
Every paper you read there is something published about the greyhounds, as usual its the horrific details they pick up on, so we need something from the board fairly quick, this cannot be brushed under the carpet IMHO.

How about a appology from your own little Company .....

The documentary actually did greyhound racing an immense service by pinpointing the unacceptable practices among a minority of people within the sport. The Irish Greyhound Board need to impose harsh penalties on those who behave in this way, they need to clamp down further on doping and they need to invest far more in the care of retired greyhounds.

Eamonn hit the nail on the head there, a heart warming article particularly for anyone born into greyhounds. The furore is over and its questionable what long term impact Conor Ryan and co will ultimately have with their longstanding agenda. When we have someone of the ilk of Mchel Muircheartaigh who conversed so positively off the cuff with Ray Darcy last week on national radio, weve enough good people in our corner to bounce back.

In my opinion there will always be sufficient political support which is the key. However I would have serious issues with the governance in the industry, waste of resources and lack of drive and ambition in terms of promoting the sport. Lets hope the IGB act accordingly on their wake up call.

This documentary was aired on the same day as the gruesome image of the Salvadoran father and his young daughter who drowned crossing the Rio Grande trying to reach a better life. It puts everything into perspective in my eyes and personally im looking forward to shortly taking my two year old to her local track to see her new acquisition running and pass on my passion for my sport to my next generation.

I took a 7 months old pup to this vet approx 12 years ago with suspected hock fracture. He asked did it happen in a race After telling him dog was 7 months he examined and told me there was no fracture and that it was growing pains and he would be ok.I went to Brian Jones a few days later. He quickly diagnosed a hock fracture and after his recommendation and medication dog was ok and went on to better things. Some people never go on to better things and not much learned in 12 years from what I hear locally and heard on Rte programme.Needless to say I have been going back to you know who ever since

I don't suppose he'd be interested in a CEO post should one become available?
