Well sort of correct RH not very positive.

If you mean anti greyhound racing incorrect. I have focused most of my life towards the sport. I have been involved in Administration at club level, been a mentor to newcomers to the sport in the area I live in. Have been breeding greyhounds since 1980, trained and raced too many to remember the numbers and met and befriended many in the sport both here and in Australia , and Oh one in Bath England

If on the other hand you mean anti in general, you are probably correct. I post here in NZ as GOM (grumpy old man) and that is what most think I am. I am anti anything that in my opinion threatens the industry and have been criticized a lot for giving my opinion but I am still entitled to one.

I think the NZ greyhound industry was helped immensely with the Australian bloodlines but unfortunately the flood of squibs that were often suspect chasers as well damaged the sport here. We now find ourselves in a position where we depend on the Australian industry to keep going, while the Australians are still arguing on how they should keep going.
I cant remember the name of the Sherlock that posted Aus dogs are better than NZ dogs How about that I don't think I have ever met a NZ'r that would disagree with that. All but a few of the best dogs I have seen go around over here were imported or on laon but depending on imports here is unsustainable and while some benefit from it is a far bigger bonus to the Aussie system than it is to NZ.

Steve,

I look at the industry being sustainable in both countries uncle,

if we cannot breed enough dogs in NZ to sustain the industry we probably do not deserve to have an industry, If you cannot get enough dogs to fill your fields because you do not give them enough initiative and send many of the results of that over here then you may well fit in the same category one day .

Mr Pomeroy who commented above is good example of a successful breeder rearer trainer in NZ who has abandoned that pursuit to instead support the Australian industry. It has become an easy alternative to many NZ trainers and makes our industry unsustainable.

Maybe it is a good idea to remove all tariffs and just make us a final destination for the flotsam from your industry.

We could call it the hardrock caf of greyhound racing. The place that no one ever leaves

Michael....I was simply answering Mark's question. Nothing more. Nothing less. What happens across the ditch is none of my business. Good luck your countries quest for perfection.

Fair enough Steve, I mean no harm to you or the Australian industry just worried about both industries, just like everyone else

Over time, the England cricket team has included players bred in South Africa, Zimbabwe, NZ, India, Australia and West Indies. A little in reverse has occurred but not significantly. Indeed, I would worry for England were it not for Stokes (and Lamb).

The counties have similar experiences.

Thoroughbred sires shuttle from north to south hemispheres as a routine and very rewardingly.

A good slice of top Oz tennis players originated in Europe.

Oz greyhound sires have helped USA and Ireland breeding - and vice versa.

Australian soccer is replete with European coaches and players - and also some in the reverse direction.

Both Rugby Union and Rugby League might be better described as Oceanian rather than Australian.

Irish, African and USA players are all over AFL.

What's not to like?

If NZ has a problem, it should look in the mirror. Or ask Air New Zealand which bats well above its weight.

Brucie, you miss the point. All the instances you quote good perosnal have reinforced the recipient countries. Hoe do you think all those sports would have fared if they had received weak willed people with no commitment to their job. That's what happened to us.

Of course the good bloodlines and performers are beneficial to any country.

Someone above called me a hypocrite because in trotting and gallops our horses regularly cross the ditch to plunder the great prizemoney on offer. Once again that is the cream of the crop and they invariably return home no relevance whatsoever to what I espouse.

I asked Air New Zealand and they said if they had kept getting sent tiger moths and Cessna's they wouldn't be in the position they now find themselves.

"Wrong" a lot of N.Z. Horses are either sold or sent to Australia to race or breed for good money and never return to N.Z. !!!!
