Many thanks to the IGOBF who made a collection for Longford Track at the Pro Racing meeting in Portlaoise last night. In a show of solidarity the greyhound people donated 825 which is much appreciated!
There was also a proposal to raise money for Longford and Lifford tracks by holding a benefit meeting at Shelbourne Park in the near future.
Thank you all for your support!

Looks like you can bet from overseas on Longford dogs. I didn't know that was possible.

Alan that is brilliant news! The support we have been getting from all over the country gives us great heart. We are in the middle of a battle and its great to know that the good greyhound people are standing at our shoulders. Thank you all for your support.

A quick summary of the meeting held last night:
There was a large turnout including 2 local councilors. We appreciate them coming and offering their help and advice.

34,000 has been raised to date ... an amazing achievement in such a short time! Thanks to each and every one of you who has contributed...not just in Ireland but from friends in the UK, Europe and the USA. Fundraising will continue.

The track will have to remain closed until the electrical work and fire safety measures have been completed. It is estimated that this may take 3 weeks. There can be no trials or racing during this time.

The estimated cost of these works is now around 27,000. It was unanimously voted to spend this money now and get the work done. A further meeting will be held with the Fire Officer asap with the view to getting the track open again as soon as possible.

Thanks again to everyone who has helped Longford Greyhound Stadium! The fighting spirit will go on...

Hi Tina,
I'm so sorry I mentioned the wrong date for the benefit night. The exact date is Friday 13th September 2019.
I have another function on the 24th September, some readers may be interested in this gig. The Olympia Theater "A Tribute to Brendan GRACE". All funds raised go to a group of people suffering from Dementia. Its a cause Brendan became involved with through former TD Nora Owen.
However back to business, we plan on having a right good night in SP and hopefully we will raise enough funds to keep the show on the road.

Please note that as the stadium is closed for the next few weeks any identity cards that had been left in the racing office have been transferred to the Mullingar track racing office and are available for collection from there.

Just seen this on talking dogs????????

IRISH GREYHOUND BOARD STATEMENT: LIFFORD AND LONGFORD
IRISH GREYHOUND BOARD STATEMENT: LIFFORD AND LONGFORD
IGB

Following discussions with representatives of Lifford and Longford stadia, the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) has confirmed that racing will not proceed at either track in the coming period.

Both Mullingar and Dundalk stadia have been authorised to hold two additional races per meeting to cater for both Lifford and Longfords dog pools.

Further decisions regarding the future needs of the Irish greyhound industry will be considered when a comprehensive, strategic review by Indecon Economic Consultants is made available in the near future.

I note from the statement released by Tina Mcgrane on behalf of Longford Greyhounds Ltd that IGB are going to continue to support our track .This is great news and in stark contrast to their statement of 27/8/19 .Well done to the committee for bringing about this change of heart.
