This guy shouldn't be anywhere near any racing industry

He's under-qualified for the job

Must have V’Landys on speed dial.

In light of stories on 4 Corners involving the horse racing industry...he would be a fair hypocrite to be even contemplating applying for the role at Racing Australia.

If his defence is 4 Corners didn’t present all the facts and painted a one sided story on isolated rogues in the industry...I would say “touché motherf#%ker”.

Quote
"Former NSW deputy premier Troy Grant is weighing up whether to apply for the vacant Racing Australia chief executive role after receiving support from racing and non-racing people".

What a load of baloney. What....support from how many, 2 people at best & the "Black-2K" movement that does nothing but blindside peoples $$$$ and Pcuk-all.

I'm sure TG is a nice man but once he & his merry band of backstabbers crossed the line, I'm afraid it's sayonara as fair as I'm concern......& I'm sure when I say that I speak for the majority of all greyhound racing folk.

This stinks to high heaven & must be a distraction from something worse.

Makes perfect sense to me.

He wallowed in T/B circles when he was in power.

He showed total disdain for T/B's competitives when in power.

He showed he likes to hold hands and shine shoes for his masters when in power.

He still has political mates who think T/B racing is a fashion accessory.

No edging needed...he fits the mould perfectly.

100% agree with Mr. Hatton's post.

The baton gets handed over to former politicians or supporters of political parties regularly; too often. Politicians keep on getting `gigs' somewhere, while the rest of us suffer. Often they are just a `mouth-piece' for the Gov't.

Besieged NSW Nationals leader Troy Grant has defended his decision to ban greyhound racing, in a six-page letter issued to senior party members that hits out at internal opponents he accuses of “wilfully fuelling media hysteria”.

“As a result of the decision I have taken, I now stand accused and condemned for killing an industry that was already on death row,” he said.

“The reality is that I and the Nationals team are putting in place an assistance package to support people who will be affected by the closure of the industry, which would not have been available had the industry been left to collapse on its own.”

The Deputy Premier defended his decision, arguing that declining participant numbers had left many rural and regional racetracks on the brink of insolvency and a continuing decline would mean the sport was not viable into the future. By bringing the industry to an orderly close, Mr Grant said, he was providing participants with access to transition assistance that they never would have received had it been left to peter out by itself.

He was a big supporter of TB (family involvement, now owns shares in horses and left the door open for future plans) in NSW and a big destroyer of Greyhound Racing in NSW.

I will always remember him saying something similar, "there is no better time then now to breed with your mares" on 2KY Sports Radio, while planning (without the McGoo Report being finalised) to close down the greyhound industry.

Yes he saw the stars in his eyes there alright

Being a sycophant cost him his job and respect and nearly buried his party

Who would want him on your team?

Sandro,

This begs the question of who was dominant - Baird or Grant.

Notwithstanding Baird's attitude, I suspect Grant was always leading the push, based on his personal distaste for greyhounds and his inclusion in the McHugh brief a specific request to decide if greyhound racing should be terminated.

In a normal court that would be titled a leading question and would be thrown out by the judge. Not so in a Commission where you can get away with any old thing. And, despite all its errors, the McHugh Report offered 71 other conclusions or recommendations apart from a shutdown. Even then, the driving force was not McHugh (who has a racing background) but the Counsel Assisting (with more of a Greenie background) who demonised greyhounds from Day One.

The further key to Grant is his poor public persona - with the current Police, with greyhounds, with the unpopular power grab of the Attorney General's role and with his career-long history as a policeman himself.

Then there remains the query as to why a senior Inspector would quit the force after 20 years. The pension might be one reason, but maybe his card was marked?

Anyway, he lost his job partly because his colleagues were not always on song and partly because the mob finally saw through his shenannigans (as did the bloke Baird asked to investigate the effect of a shutdown and got an answer he did not want). Hence the Orange defeat, etc, etc.

No sycophancy. Mainly despotism. Probably worse.

Incidentally, the ARB is a powerless irrelevancy, much like GA. They can't even get their whip rules through (rightly or wrongly).

Meantime, it would appear his party is frantically trying to bury itself. Grant's replacement is of dubious value.

Glenn,

Many Racing Ministers have been dodgy - Hinz and Face, for a start - but often because they are low on the totem pole and others prefer different briefs. So they struggle for brownie points.

Victoria is a bit of an exception as the usually rank well there - Premier included.

"Threats" of defamation are normally waffle and PR-oriented. Actual defamation charges are different. Been there and done that.
