Following Government announcement this morning regarding COVID 19, the Irish Greyhound Board (IGB) wishes to advise that from 6pm today (Thursday 12th March), a racing behind closed doors policy will be put into effect.
No public admissions other than one person, one dog admissions will be permitted.
Waste of time the money placed on the totes at shelbourne are actually embarrassing less then 50 placed on any win or forecast in first 3 races less then a 100 placed on trios the 3rd race just 55 euro with a return of 16 euro. If they wanted to see what tote returns would be like with no bookies its a huge flop. Then you have fortune telling u place ur bet before each race to avoid disappointment. There's fecking no 1 there.

No public admissions other than one person, one dog admissions will be permitted. The World is currently in the grip of a Pan-demic, Ireland as an island is in the grip of an epidemic for which currently we have no treatment, no cure or no vaccine. Yesterday, the ROI goverment (as it currently exists) on the advice of its experts issued guidelines to the public to act in a responsible way in an attempt to manage the spread of this epidemic. The vast majority of sporting and social bodies in ROI have acted in the spirit of these guidelines and cancelled all activities, many of which are purly local e.g. training sessions etc.. The two notable exceptions to this are HRI and the IGB who are both adopting a "racing behind closed doors policy". To me this is a crazy situation where you run the risk of people from Kerry to Derry and everywhere in between, albeit controlled in a manner of speaking, accumulating in the same area, not knowing where they have been or who they have been in contact with. For what? To keep racing for another fortnight which if the situation continues to escalate the country will face a total closedown anyway. IMO both organisations should act in the spirit of the Goverments guidelines and close shop immediatley
Am I the only person that thinks that the world has gone into panic mode? We are told that the only people that have died or are vunerable are the elderly with underlying health problems. The vast majority of people that contract this virus will have mild symptoms and recover within 14 days according to the experts. More people are killed and injured on the roads than have died by the virus yet none of our politicians are telling us that we mustn't drive any more. Of course it may well be that our politicians are not telling us the whole truth as the old saying says "how do you know that a politician is lying? Just watch his lips move!"

With respect, suggest you check on Italy. So many people of all ages are sick they have to decide which one to treat. Weeks in intensive care. Others die.
Clive while I normally agree with what you say, in this instance I totally disagree. Read the Irish Times today to find out just what is happening in Italy. The hospitals are now having to choose who lives and who dies. This is not just going away. I have friends living in Italy one in Milan police everywhere everything closed except supermarkets and chemists and only certain numbers allowed in at a time. You have to print a form off before you leave your house stating your name and address where you are going etc.Don't know what happens if you do not have a printer. The rest of the world is 15 days behind doing everything and of course there was Cheltenham, the UK politicians seem to have their heads firmly in the sand.
