Yes, why shouldn't they get full prize money? Everyone aims at getting 500m dogs, but if they're better suited to shorter it can't be helped. Like saying 500/600/700m shouldn't get full prize money because they weren't quick enough to keep up over shorter distance

No,no,no...& no !!!!
Mal,even at this early stage it is evident that this post is & will end up in favour of the NO's.
Jodie," old school shit " you say, well,i will say this much," back in the day" most trainer's were not only trainers, but excellent patient conditioner's,who excelled at their craft,& 500 + mtrs was the pinnacle of racing, under 500 mtr racing was for the love of your'e greyhound's & the love of the sport, along with the social aspect of having them.Jodie we all know that the popularity of short course racing is bi product of the reforms enforced due to the L/B scandal, which ensured the racing life of greyhound's even short course dog's,but also the increased P/M for them,& i don't have a issue with that, but definately not at City class level, only provincial & Country class imo. ( why do you think Tab turn over is so bad these days ?? ).

No more "old school" dogs around, dogs these days can only put in a good run between 7 & 9 day apart, there are no more strong dogs, even the really good stayers find it hard to back up 7 days later..

Mal,these figure's are not indicitive of greyhound racing pools & turnover, only the racing industry as a whole including those ridiculous video racing games.Mate, a more accurate figure would be by comparing pools & turnover that is invested by comparison from wagering on 350mmmtr & under, against lets say 450mtr racing & up.cheers mate. Ps,no old school dogs you say....more like not enough " old school training & CONDITIONING methods " used enough i say.

No

I am owner/trainer/breeder.

I agree with Sandro that it takes more time and effort as a trainer to get your dogs to race over longer distances, this should be rewarded.

No. Owner/breeder

I understand, they cost the same to feed and medicate, but if placed correctly they can earn close to the WP prizemoney each week.
A fair structure for winning prizemoney would be to pay $1,000 per 100m of racing in town and half that at "B" meetings. Place prizemoney would then be scaled down accordingly.

This would be the incentive to breed dogs with stamina.
Or if you choose to breed speedsters then so be it. You know what your potential earnings will be.

How many 300m "squibs" have made it at stud?

G'day Mal,

I seem to have heard that last comment elsewhere, and he's been shot down in flames for saying it....
It sounds different coming from someone else.
Let's see if you need a hard hat for the knockers. :-)

Mal,unlike some with far greater knowledge than myself, trying to find how to access those figure's re turn over & wagering on those two distance categories is near impossible, i quite often look at the total pools of both on the "giddy goat " ,( yep..."old school again, lol ),but you don't need to be a Rhodes Scholar to to see the difference in pools,& unfortunately, we don't get to see the pools of the fixed odds component, nor the corporate's,but feel free to
try & find those figures.Again Mal,training methods, not the dog's,top class tradies very rarely blame their tools ,before you know it,greyhound racing ould become glorified gymkhana's.Still a No from me

Is that another NO Sandro,lol.
Mal,have a look at the pools from some of todays & tonights meetings...i'm sure you see the difference re distance catergories & the pools & turn over,at the end the day,the returns from this (from Tabcorp ),help to fund our industry, less wagering = less money for greyhound racing participants,so YES,thats why 450mtr + dogs should be (as a lot have said),be better rewarded.

That's right, so how can you tell if its down if they haven't done the half yearly report from 2020.
