All tracks will be inundated with trial entries, so how will social distancing be carried out. There must be pre booking of some kind,

It would be good to know what owners/trainers will have to do for trials and race nights. How will tracks enforce social distancing, how will it be policed ? Best option I think is to keep dogs in vans and only weigh in before race but this will be a problem when weather gets warm.

Some guidance would be appreciated, Padjoe are you guys being included in putting together these proposals surely as representatives of owners IGB should be openly engaging with you as this is serious business and getting it wrong is not an option. I actually think if IGOBF are not happy they should instruct owners not to race as its serious business and age demographic of Greyhound owners and trainers is not young so risk is higher. 5th of May is a week away and I assume proposals are on the way but until they are out there we have no idea of how things will be handled when we turn up for trials or races.

Open questions are - What are we expected to do for weigh in, kenneling, parading for race, putting dogs in traps ? and finally what do we do at pick up after race as thats generally a free for all ? An Aussie styled catching pen might work (maybe not a gate but a curtain gets pulled across past hare box when dogs pass it during race and second curtain gets pulled when dogs go to pick up maybe at 2nd bend like there used to be at Spk many years ago). Then maybe let only 2 handlers at a time get in to catch their dogs. These are just my thoughts but Lots of scenarios which will all need proper procedures and need to be clearly explained. Like I said its serious business and people need to feel safe.

The IGB are saying that there will be extensive trial periods, but this is going to become a free for all when everyone will be bumper to bumper. Would it not be best for each track to hold a complete day for trials, with the trials being booked in advance and a trial sheet sheet ready so everyone knows exactly what trial and trap they are in from the very start. The trainer can state that he wants a solo or mixed. Perhaps doing the sprints in the morning and 525 in the afternoon, or the other way around. At the present time Confusion for us all, until someone with the know how sorts it out.

Definitely the way to go Carole, but I also think people should trial their dogs back on their local track (only) This will also help with the unnecessary movement of people. Once all dogs are trialed they can race on any track as usual.

Regarding to having a sprint trial to requalify.I for one would not run an unfit hound and I believe we have stewards and vets to say wether your dog is eligible to race, but that's just another insult to the dogman. The problem of having a sprint with a fresh dog is,you could jump 3 or 4 grades,so your a7 does an a3 time and will never win a 525 again. on the other hand, you will be racing, but for who, thats the problem

Everyone is speculating what should happen, lots of different opinions, i am sure that there will be measures put in place with guidance from the HSE and medical council in-conjunction with the Dept of Agriculture/IGB. The federation is in consultation with the igb, but the igb have the final say, there is on going discussion, people must understand that there is no face-to-face meetings, teleconference which can bring its own difficulties. all GOBA reps are discussing all the queries and ideas put forward by everyone, firstly re getting back racing etc. The main priority is keeping people safe, if the trial sessions and racing is not adhered to as per government guidance, then i am sure they will have a rethink. I am as much in the dark as everyone else. Lets hope we can get a strategy that will work and get back to what we love doing best.

2 months wait is bol**x, whats the difference between 6 guys racing 6 dogs behind closed doors than people playing golf? Disinfection of vehicles would help her over the 5kn job

for unraced pups i sugest forget about qualifying trials and grade the dogs by their age like the sales until we get back to some kind of normality

It's just crazy, you would have thought greyhound racing would be the first sport back but poor leadership and negotiating skills means we have to wait another 2 months, the hri are still in talks with the government regarding getting back before June 29th, if they get back before the dogs itself all over.
