It wouldn't be the first .looking at all the old videos it's very sad to see how far greyhound racing has tumbled from been a place to go for a good night out to a place where nobody has any interest anymore.

Time for the greyhound people to realise that what is in place hasn't worked for a long time now . When you look at the old videos and see all the sponsors that have walked away you would have to ask what's going on .

Zero welfare regime in place for years...The public feel that it cruel...They don't want anything to do with the sport...What the IGb are doing now, after being forced into improving welfare,is way too late in the general public's opinion..The attendance records prove this..

For years the board is a place where politicians send their buddies for a handy retirement, they are a law onto themselves, we still have a person on the board who approved the Limerick White elephant, even though he should have done 2 terms maximum, we should have been the first sport back but due to incompetence we have to wait 3 further weeks, as a sport we have great potential but unfortunately we are run by dummies.

This is how the horse racing industry got back on track, not by sitting back.

Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) today published a protocol document for key personnel necessary to run race fixtures, which will resume behind closed doors in Ireland on June 8.

The document details Covid-19 protocols for each industry group and the procedures which must be undertaken by all racecourses hosting race fixtures. A series of educational webinars will be announced next week to assist further understanding of the changes people will
will encounter when returning to work on the racecourse. These protocols have been developed by Horse Racing Ireland in consultation with the IHRB and are essential to safeguard everyone's health and wellbeing, and to ensure that racing will resume in a safe and appropriate manner.

Brian Kavanagh, Chief Executive of Horse Racing Ireland, said:

We have worked closely with the IHRB and the Senior Medical Officer Dr Jennifer Pugh in strengthening our protocols ahead of a return to racing.
The new system of health screening will include the registration of every attendee at every race meeting, from jockeys, trainers, IHRB staff, to racecourse staff, cleaning staff and so on. Everybody will be required to complete a baseline health screening questionnaire followed by a set of further screening questions every 24-hours before attendance at a race meeting.

We have further strengthened the screening process with the installation of a thermal camera system to check attendees temperatures. Nobody with an elevated reading will be allowed entry.
The infection control policy is such that all surfaces will be regularly disinfected both before racing and throughout the race day, all indoor areas will be well ventilated, and only those essential to that area are present.

In line with Government advice, persons over the age of 70 will not be permitted to attend in the initial stage of the return.

Brian Kavanagh added:

It is incumbent on everybody in the industry to familiarise themselves with the new protocols, to partake in the upcoming webinars which will help bring these protocols to life and to ensure that the racecourse continues to be a safe place to work.

Zero welfare what the hell are you talking about...Back up that statement please...making stupid statements like that on a public forum ya may as well be on that RTE programe saying it ffs have you any cop on at all...and it's statements like the one you just posted is what's destroying the sport the welfare of the Greyhound in this country is to a very high standard the people of this sport over the last year have posted thousands of videos of the dogs they keep and how they care for them you might have seen a RTE program that was deliberately set up to destroy our industry with their 20 year old footage and 80% of it nothing to do with the Greyhound industry and another 15% of it lies Declan I'm not been shitty with you with my response to your post and believe me i know you probably didn't mean to come across bad or anything but it's just really annoying to see the the sport been ran down by igb by the antis and by our own...yes change is needed but that goes right across the spectrum we to need to change" Our negative mind set towards everything is creating a doom and gloom atmosphere I can not remember the last time I seen a post on here about how great the sport is and I can tell you it is great but it can be much much better and it all starts with each and every one of us!!

Will IGB be using the same protocol as Horse Racing Ireland upon their return?

Hi Brian,I didn't mean to put the decent doggy folk who care so much about their dog in a bad light...It was more pointing at a lack of funding that the IGB gave for years to those rehoming centres etc...Also they should have been publicising vocally that the welfare of the dog was paramount...ie a 5 minute slot in all the greyhound view videos they are showing currently...

Declan its just as easy praise the sport and talk it up as it is to knock it 99% of the people involved in the sport are the salt of the earth...But know let's concentrate on the 1% and in the process destroy the sport for the 99%...and as for the rehoming centers give them money are you joking me their the very ones outside our tracks trying to close us down and you want to give them money...if my dog had fleas I wouldn't give them the fleas to re-home never mind the dog...

Guys stop bad mouthing each other and rescues centres, that is not the issue here. What is the issue is - Just what are the IGB doing as they do not seem to want to inform us or update us on a daily basis. On Talking Dogs all you are getting is past memories, I'm sorry but all I am interested in, is the present. The horse industry put together a 70 page plan which they presented, now they have the go ahead, is there anything similar for greyhound racing. Just why are we not being informed by the people that WE keep in work. The board need people on it that have been involved in greyhounds and know exactly how the industry works from the ground roots. Sorry for the rant getting pissed off now.

To be fair to the igb board and ceo Im fully sure that they are working tirelessly behind closed doors to get a speedy resumption to greyhound racing in Ireland.

No more than HRI they have to keep there cards close to there chest til they get something definitive or concrete that they can announce until then all we can do is believe that our CEO and chairman is doing all they can to make it happen.

We are in the middle of a major and unforeseen epidemic and we must all work together to stay safe and get things back working.
Back stabbing and bickering wont help

We must all work together yes, but leadership and vision have to come from the top down. That's the whole purpose of having a board in place. The CEO you mentioned didn't even show up to the Joint Committee meeting with Department of Agriculture after the RTE programme, was there ever a time in the history of the sport when a ceo was needed more?, and while on a six figure salary?
Just watching the greyhound view episodes has really hit home with me. Such a buzz and so much excitement. Bearing in mind the racing fund wasn't long in at that stage, would make you wonder really in the long run would it be better off without it if the dead wood went with it ?

Thank you Barrie for your kind words.
Vinny I think you are looking at this through rose colour specs. The IGB board were almost banking on greyhound racing starting on the backs of the commencement of horse racing. What they did not expect that the horse racing industry put together a 70 page statement laying out exactly what the plans were to get back to their racing and it succeeded. If you go through it you will see how well planned out everything is, even to having webinars for all who have to attend the tracks and just what the rules that should be obeyed. The last IGB statement on Talking Dogs was the 15th and they are quite surprised greyhound racing did not get the go ahead, and all they could say, " Greyhound racing has proven its ability to run racing behind closed doors and successfully complied with all COVID-19 protocols when operating on a closed doors basis during early March 2020, Has it really, people have to be 2m apart, this wont work when putting dogs into kennels into traps weighing in. People using the toilets which at the present time have to be sanitised so staff have to be on hand.So the IGB have to put together a clever plan outlining everything. This virus is not going away, it kills no matter what age or sex you are, there is no vaccination at this present time. Safety is a must for both humans and our dogs. God help anyone with hay fever like me. Once upon a time when you sneezed people would say god bless you, now they say fuck off.lol

One of the biggest problems is that IGB do not come out and talk to the ordinary man. Like, I personally did, or loathe him Pascal Taggart as chairman never had a problem with holding meetings with gatherings of dog owners. Taking feedback and arguing his case. He knew what it took to bring everyone together.

Believe it or not there is an update on Talking Dogs. A lots of words without really saying nothing we do not already know.
The IGB sought clarity from the Department regarding the status of greyhound racing and outlined their approach to resume greyhound racing in terms of trials and racing behind closed doors. So why is it they are not letting us know "their approach" are we being run by a Secret Service, we supply the dogs we should be in the know.

Because the virus is a new disease, its not entirely known how long it survives on different surfaces. Generally speaking, coronaviruses can last for relatively long periods outside the human body.

The virus that causes Covid-19 could survive:

In aerosols for up to three hours
On cardboard for up to 24 hours
On plastic and stainless-steel surfaces for up to three days.

Seen on Talking Dogs today the IGB are promoting a fostering scheme for retired Greyhounds . Late last year they announced the opening of two care centres plus more to follow , i m surprised they have nt promoted these facilites more to show non Greyhound people how well these Dogs are cared for when retired.

It is now the 22nd May - why are greyhound people not being kept upto date as to what the IGB are doing to get our sport back up and running. The last on Taking Dogs was the 15th May 7 days ago. The UK have already started back with trials and plans in action to commence racing. Here in Ireland the response if deafening.
