This is a message from our friend, Dick Ciampa. He is happy for you to share it.

Greyhound Nation

We all know Grey2K has portrayed themselves as experts on greyhounds and they have availed themselves to the news media as the go to organization to get information from. However, the question is are they experts?

I will use myself as an example to show how easy it is to fool people.

Besides greyhounds my other passion is space. I pretty much keep up with what NASA is doing and I read what I can about what will go on in the future and what has gone on in the past. I have a number of people I send information to about upcoming events or article and pictures of things that have just gone on. I also, when we could go to a bar, get in conversations with people at bars about space that I either don't know or know very casually. I can't tell you how many times people have said to me that I really know a lot about space and I ALWAYS correct them. I always let them know that with any hobby a person has more knowledge about that specific hobby than most people. I always tell people they should never mistake me for a rocket scientist. If you really knew me you wouldn't make that mistake.

My example I use a lot is, if you know very little about space, or any specific hobby, on a scale of 1 to 10 you would be a 1 and a rocket scientist would be a 10. Because I know a little more than you and you think I'm very knowledgeable you are impressed and I could have fooled you and just gone along with that misconception. However, that was never my goal so I will tell you I would rate myself a 1 1/2 or maybe a 2 on that scale of 1 to 10.

The point being anyone that has a hobby knows more about that hobby than the average person. If there were 100 people and I started talking about space these 100 people might be impressed, but the ruse would be over if just 1 of these 100 people really was a rocket scientist and started asking me questions that I had no idea what the answers were.

Grey2K has become to greyhounds what I am about space with one major exception and that is I never try and fool people into letting them think I'm something I'm not. Grey2K would NEVER talk greyhounds with a greyhound farmer, kennel owner or trainer. I'm not talking a debate where you might be able to BS your way through to the people listening. I'm talking about how you go about choosing a sire for breeding to a dam. I'm talking about how the farmer is up in the middle of the night if the dam is whelping at that time and clearing the airways of the pups, if there is no heartbeat trying to bring the newborn back to life. I'm talking about the day to day rearing of the pups from birth to feeding to taking care of minor medical issues and knowing when the medical issue needs a vet visit. I'm talking about the training whether it's just on a whirligig at a younger age or the start to the greyhounds official training out on a real track at a farm that finishes greyhounds.

The quasi experts have no clue. The quasi experts have no clue because they have never spent a day at a greyhound farm, they have never spent a day in the kennels. They have never gotten their hands dirty because they are either sitting in their plush offices in the upscale town of Arlington, Massachusetts or flying around the world talking about something they really have no knowledge of.

The quasi experts are to greyhounds what I am to space. On a scale of 1 to 10 they are a 1 1/2.

No one should ever mistake me as an expert on space and no one should ever mistake Grey2K as an expert on greyhounds. What Grey2K's expertise is in is separating you from your money. Grey2K, like the ASPCA, PETA and the HSUS, are all experts at playing with your emotions and getting donations from you.
