I have heard people talk about OLD track times as opposed to recent ...and i think Albion is one example ...where something may have changed ?

Im interested for eg iif a dog ran 29.80 at albion say back in 2000 20 years ago ...what would its equivalent be today ?

Is there a difference ?

David,

I hesitate to give you an accurate time but the new Steriline boxes put a bigger plug in the centre and changed the timer release.

Probably around -0.15s.

And the rest!
Well in late 1995 which is 25 years ago Flying Amy smashed the record and went 29.73. That record stood for years and it was very very rare a dog broke 30 seconds there. From memory the next dog to run times like that was Queen Lauryn in 2007 or so. 13 years ago.
Because Flying Amy was so dominant in her time i would say its closer to 0.4-0.5 of a second or faster now.

thanx for your input guys ...t as well as flying amy Juist the best went 29.78 there roughly 99/2000

so either todays dogs have gotten a lot faster or you could at least give those dogs from way back maybe 2-3 tenths ? at least ?

So Senachie runs 29.4 or whatever it was ..its a moot point becasue we could never know who was the faster dog ..Flying amy or Sennachie ?

ill fess up about my interest i bought a pup , impulsive heart buy (just cause i liked the look of the pup ) sired by JTB (proven cross) and a few of my mates have bagged me ...telling me old time sire ...games gone by him ..dogs are sooo much faster these days ..and probably they are ? but are they ? guess no real way to know ?

David,

Mitchell may well be right and my -0.15 too conservative.

But it is a near impossible argument. New boxes, fresh loam, varying maintenance, changes in gradients, weather, quality of opposition, etc all play a part.

However, it is as well to remember that Flying Amy was not only a great railer but also a fast beginner and immaculate racer. Also a female. By all the measures, Sennachie gets 9/10, Flying Amy 10/10 but what that means for breeding I have no idea.

Good on you mate. It is really a question if dogs got faster or the actual track. But breaking 30 20 years ago+ was classed as a sensational run. And from past experiences if you think you got a good deal you probably did. Good luck mate.
