Evening all, New to the site and a couple years into racing some of my own greyhounds. Im loving every minute of it and have found this site and other members of the greyhound fraternity super helpful! Now I need a bit of advice....I would love to bring in a couple of American bitches to race here in Aus. Who they are I dont know yet. First step is how I can get in touch with trainers who would like to sell or do a deal for a high class American bitch?
Any assistance in pointing me in the right direction would be appreciated. I have already email the NGA in the States.

Go onto Tracks on here,USA Derby Lane which is still racing and click onto Fast Times,check out the youngest bitches that are the fastest and fone the track for the Trainers number,they will all be for sale post December and will probably be at bargain prices.Hope all goes well for you.

You need to get the bloods done and microchip and DNA and then wait 6 months then you must spend i think 12 days in Quarantine in Australia
Some in the USA will rip you off and must not be trusted It is not hard to do but you must have a lot of trust in the USA and if you are super keen still to get a brood or race bitch then i can help you get onto the right people in the US...
The USA level of racing in 2020 would be on par with South Australia class of racing .

HA HA HA....certainly not a millionaire just looking at doing something a bit different to what we usually do. Some exciting broodies over there and they deserve to keep running. As we all know the crosses between Aussie and American have worked really well..who knows, the right mix could get us the next Fanta Bale!

Thanks Howard...yeah a few people have private messaged me and I have looked at the logistics of it and the costs associated and it certainly is an expensive exercise. also with Covid there are little to no flights coming over so we will have to see how we go.

Hi Craig We agree with everyone's advice to you on this post. In 2009 we imported to Australia 2 females from impeccable lines.
Greys Destiny CLICK HERE who produced group winners
Five Paws CLICK HERE and Greys Destiny's offspring have gone on to produce many talented runners including multi Group winner
Barooga Brett CLICK HERE We also imported Greys Lemon Ice CLICK HERE who has also produced group finalists and plenty of quality racers.
We have had a lot of success with the lines and learnt a lot along the way.
Back in 2009, importing involved initially the decision of who to choose (which is the hardest decision to make), then blood tests etc with 5 months quarantine in the States, then 1 month quarantine in AUS (back then $45 per day per dog and you could visit them twice a week). Think there has been a reduction in quarantine time now.
Others are correct in saying you need deep pocket, but you must really do a lot of homework and only deal with people well respected in the industry.
With the sad and imminent closure of American racing, there will be many opportunities for import of dogs and/or semen. But gosh, you would have to be careful.
At the time, we liked the idea of importing the American girls to get a head start, but these days with the international import/export of frozen semen you can probably home breed an American brood in a couple of years.
Robbie, Geoff and Kevin would be a good start for contacts.
There have been many imports of racers, broods and pups from OS over the years. Some have been very successful - others have just been a very costly exercise. Therefore, it is just as risk taking as any other breeding - only with importing, you add more cost initially.
But it can be very very exciting!

So do I Kev, great choices as broodies. I love the Fortress x Gable Dodge lines that go back to Tell You Why. These days I would be still looking for similar but also trying to include dogs like Crash or Trent Lee or similar. Doesnt matter which line but if you can find a bitch with 20 percent Aussie in the first five like Tell You Why was twenty years ago then IMO youre close to the mark. Cheers
