Always has amazed me why Industry participants sit on their hands and allow the Radicals to disrupt their workplace. Given the Greyhound Racing Industry generates $9.6 Billion to the National economy through wagering alone. Then there is the $$$ input to local communities through Employment, Produce Merchants, Veterinarians, Motor Vehicles, Dog floats, Pet Transport, Property, Tyres, Mechanical repairs, Fuel Stations etc etc. It is time the Industry fought back. Placards made and join in their group spreading the TRUE message. The media are always present but project one side. Industry Placards " Greyhound Racing generates $9.6 Billion into the National economy through wagering alone" " Greyhound Racing Supports local communities" Greyhound Racing supports Veterinarians, Produce Merchants, Vehicle Manufacturers, Tyre Companies, Fuel Stations, Mechanics. " Greyhound Racing is one of the Nations major employers" One can only wonder how many of the antagonists Centrelink payments are funded by Greyhound Racing. "Come on its time to fight back".

The activists are on a big push at the moment given the NZ situation

The fools are even criticizing sending greyhounds as pets to the USA for police and servicemen

How ironic considering that they have decimated the sport and the greyhound breed in that country, which is why they need our dog as pets...HELLO!!

They are truly a disgrace to humanity

Our powers need to get on the front foot as you say and start promoting the positive aspects of our sport to society

What exactly are we trying to achieve by promoting the positive aspects of the sport?
Because there will be a $750K consultancy fee, then the $1.5million initial advertising campaign, plus 4 full-time promotions staff on $125kpa each (plus travel and vehicle expenses)
And for what purpose?
To try to convince a small group of oxygen thieves that they are wrong?
These people are insignificant.
The Vic Gov (ultra left wing green) have just chipped in $1.6mill for a new kennel house at Ballarat. I think they know the positive aspects already.

Honestly, those who love the sport will always love the sport and those who hate it will always hate it.
The vast majority of everyday Aussies couldn't give a stuff either way.

Actions speak louder than words.
Most of these protesters are seen as being mindless fools. They are not convincing anyone with their lies.
As long as us participants continue doing the right thing, the Govs will continue to support us.

Recently the Warrnambool club were active in supporting the annual horse racing carnival. They had naming rights to one race and the broadcaster mentioned the Cup being on that night.
That's great promotion. Target the race-loving crowd. Trying to convince the antis is wasted energy and resources.

Who needs to convince the anti's they will always hate racing...and thats any animal, not just greyhounds

We know they are mindless fools and they lie through their teeth.

Of course we need to be proactive and pour money into safety , welfare, rehoming etc etc

But we also need to be seen doing it and advertising it in the same spaces that the idiots are promoting their shit.

Its about garnering support from people who don't know what good things really happen in the sport who could be easily swayed by the propaganda and lies that those bastards spread all over social media and by sympathetic like-minded journalists and media stations

Its the fun-loving crowd who are already in for the animal sports that need to help us spread the word to their friends and relatives who aren't sure... we all know who they are in our circles because they are the ones who ask a lot of questions

Look out it will hit you on the back of the head before you know it.

Sandro it is not a case of convincing The Antis.
This is all about presenting the Facts to those who are fed false information and vulnerable.
There is a positive side to Greyhound Racing and while those with vested interests sit on their hands and believe the fire will go out, they are kidding themselves.
This Anti Greyhound Movement globally is huge, if you want to see how sizeable Google "Greyhound Protests" and allocate yourself a day to take a World Tour.

I agree with you, I already said that we shouldn't target Anti's

I don't want to convince the anti's, they are impossible to discuss anything logical with

Its the people that prey upon that need to be told the truth and not the lies

Wagering on Australian greyhound racing has for the first time burst through the $10bn barrier as the sport's popularity as a betting medium continues to soar.

Figures obtained by News Corp reveal that national turnover for the 2021-22 financial year reached a record $10.65bn, a $1.75bn uplift from the $8.89bn mark in 2020-21.

The remarkable surge is laid bare in the five-year figures with the 2021-22 record mark dwarfing the $5.92bn figure established in 2017-18.

With the sport continuing to enjoy rapid growth with betting operators which in turn are pouring millions into sponsorships and promotions the demand for greyhound racing among punters has never been higher.

"We have been a long-time backer of greyhound racing in Australia, and I am proud of how we supported the industry through some very dark times," Entain Australia CEO Dean Shannon said.

"A lot of changes around animal welfare were needed and I think it has really helped change the perception of the sport.

"It was the product that probably benefited most from Covid in that a lot of punters found it for the first time and really enjoyed it.

"It has now become part of their entertainment mix. The challenge for the industry is to remain vibrant and engaging and that's why we continue to invest in sponsorships and promotions to ensure the product is constantly getting better and more exciting for punters."

Wagering turnover is not economic impact and using booming wagering figures (though the have plateaued post-covid) only fuels one of the anti's main arguments - that greyhounds are being run for entertainment, as well as highlighting the issue wagering has on parts of society.

According to the IER report last year, racing in Victoria generated $4.7B in real gross value and $3.2B in direct expenditure, of which around $428m was via the greyhound code.

If you want to win the middle ground which is where the majority of the public sit, highlight the sporting element and the positive social impacts greyhound racing provides. If you want to win the politicians, focus on 140,000+ jobs supported by racin gin Victoria, and the $500m racing and wagering activity contributes the state coffers each year which is used to fund things like school and hospitals.

All greyhound people must unite worldwide.

I believe the way forward is to presenting figures and facts to the public on what we are doing on a international level as far as homing and welfare are concerned.

This is why we have started the World Greyhound Organisation (WGO).

On this website there is the building blocks to follow every greyhound in the world from birth to its passing. The one big stumbling block we have is that some of the big adoption groups will not let us know the names of the greyhounds they have adopted out. Please see:

EXTERNAL LINK

and have a look at the statistics page. This is where the details of the thread what dogs do you have at home go as well as the stats of adoption groups that work with GD.

As well as this the WGO is currently working with 21 countries setting up stud books for them, keeping records of the owners, where the actual dog physically lives, we issue ownership and pedigree certificates and developing good welfare practices.
