Does 6 dog racing cause less interference than 8 dog racing?
Do the stats prove this? I'm not sure but I believe that to be the case. And less interference is the reason behind 6 dog racing right?
The whole idea of 6 dog racing is that with dogs in boxes 1,2,4,5,7,8, every dog has a vacant box on one side, therefore less interference.

Well here's a simple piece of free consultancy for our state admins.
No need to ask the University of Sydney to do a $400k study.

Today there is an 8 dog race. All dogs have been allocated their boxes. Dog 4 and dog 8 are scratchings leaving 6 dogs in the field. 1,2,3 and 5,6,7.
Wouldn't it be a very simple thing to do, to move dog 3 into box 4 and then to move dogs 5&6 into boxes 7&8? Now you have the perfect 6 dog race model with less chance of any interference.
Or another hypothetical example. You have an 8 dog race and dogs 2&3 are scratched. Now dog 1 has all the room in the world, dog 4 has a vacant box on the inside and dog 8 has the normal room on the outside, but dogs 5,6&7 are all in squeeze boxes. Why not move the 4 into box 2, the 5 into 4, the the 6 into 5, leaving the perfect 6 dog race model.
I cannot see any difficulties or negatives in doing this.
And if the 6 dog race model has proven to cause less interference, then what are we waiting for?

It's very hard to get a proper comparison Yaakov.
They have six dog racing in Ireland & the dogs compartments are a lot further apart.
However the lure is on the outside rail so all the dogs get a good view of the lure from any position on the track even when cornering.
I have formed the opinion that the best & most common sense first move would be to change to having the lure on an outside rail.

The dogs just don't all try to hug any rails.

I am not advocating 6 dog racing.
I saying that when there are scratchings that reduce the field to 6 runners, why not place those runners into boxes 1,2 4,5,7,8 IF that has proven to reduce interference.
