The unfortunate fact that the government appointed successful personal from different industry sectors is the fundamental core of this and many other issues. The current business modal adopted by the IGB is to generate as much turnover as possible, increase previous year end results and they feel like they have achieved something. The Board has achieved excellent commercial results, plenty of fancy tote figures and record attendances. The people on the board have achieved. Most tracks are now in business 6 days a week, sometimes your 'lucky' to get a trial, every restaurant is ticking over nicely in the hands of sub contractors. The revenue to the IGB now is enormous, and is now run as a successful business entity. We are now in a situation where the system is squeezed no matter what to justify year-end figures. Dundalk is a money making machine so they will put it on when they want, lifford is a separate Ltd company so they will get away with it BUT.. Since Pascal hung up his hat the industry has become privatized. Run by accountants, plastic marketing and faulty web sites. Our industry has no voice for the grassroots and i would question, is it even fun anymore?? Surely we should have a national assembly with elected representatives to run our industry? |
