Sue,

The watchdog committee will continue to publish it's Newsletter.

Obviously everyone has different ideas but the route being travelled at this time is clearly outlined in the newsletter posted.

Brian K, just a couple of questions in regards to the newsletter. Regarding the gas outlets it states that the Logan City Council currently budgets $40,000 per annum for the maintenance of these towers. Can you tell us how much the LCC actually spends on maintenence per annum? Budgeting and spending do not always equate. Also has there been a gas management study done on the site since May, 2000 which indicated the gas outlets would need to remain in place until 2017 when they could be removed completely?

It is also stated that your committee met with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer and Member for Mt Ommaney, Julie Attwood, I feel it is that particular meeting that would give us more of an idea where we are heading rather than meetings with Opposition Ministers. Therefore would you post the formal response from that meeting?

BK, the route outlined in the Watchdog newsletter is clear, a track in the Logan shire. Other than an interim track namely Beenleigh or Toowoomba. I think a lot more thought needs to go into this as the industry covers a lot more then the proposed route.

Terry i think NORTH of the river would be a great place to have another track, and i know how fast it is growing but it still only has 5% of the trainers residing there. at this stage SE QLD needs to get at least 2 viable tracks up and running to cater for the other 95% b4 they worry about putting tracks in an isolated area as far as trainers go. i think given time hopefully there will be a track north of the river that could pick up a couple of weaker meetings a week

Sue,

I will make the enquiries to your questions at our next meeting. Sorry if sometimes I don't answer immediately, I travel away quite a bit nearly every week and don't check the site whilst away.

With the tracks falling to pieces around us in SE QLD it is time for the GQL board to get of there butts and start coming up with solutions to safegaurd our industry. IPSWICH has had problems maintaining there track because of the impact of to much racing, which is a bigger problem than the GQL will accept. at this stage both ALBION and IPPY can only handle 3 meetings a week each and we currently have 7 all up. this is not just because the racks cant handle it but they dont have enough product to be able to field 7 meetings a week. the next problem we have is that if one track is unuseable on a TUES-WED we have no other track to transfer the meeting too. Now if they arent going to open up either BEEN or TOOW for at least an interim measure we need to forfeit at least one meeting to the NORTH. Its high time the GQL pressured the powers to be into giving us SUN racing to elevate the pressure on existing tracks, and therefore 2 meetings a week could go to the north TUES-WED and that will make for 6 meetings a week in SE QLD, be it for good or an interim time until a place like LOGAN is established. There is no point EMPIRE building until we can fix the current mess they have put us in. But this is just one problem that trainers and owners are facing currently, there needs to steps taken to fix the grading. How can a maiden worth $360(criminal) be classed different on every track dependant on wat night they run. UNLESS they are going to pay class 1,2,3 money for maidens surely a maiden is just a maiden. MONDAY night should be only CLASS1 so it can accomadate alternative distance racing in this state, and its now obvious people want to race NOVICE class1 so we need to fixture 2 every THURS night. AS i see it there should be an open 520 every MON and THURS and alternate a 710 and 600 graded and OPEN race between MON and THURS each week. these will be permantly fixtured along with 5th grade, 4grade 520 each night which will allow for an additional 600/700 on any night. THERE was a dog that had won its first 3 starts in a MAIDEN SERIES that missed not going into a NOVICE at ALBION in preferance to some last start winners at a maiden on a class1 meeting, surely commonsense should prevail.

I think Rocky are to hold 2 TAB meetings later on. Only because another track down there is unable to be used at that time. Not sure of the dates.

Rocky is a good loam surface but the lights need looking at. I think they are upgrading to suit the TAB timeslots they have been allocated.

The lights at Bundy have had work carried out on them several months ago. They havent been used since.

People are dropping out quick up here lately. I am down to one dog racing, with a few younger ones coming thru. I used to have 5-6 in every week. With a couple of others in the second string. Others I have talked to are cutting back or waiting on young pups to grow before they get any more. We have extended & chased noms for the many weeks now & is now sign it is getting any better. Trainers from Rocky are not coming down like they use to. Was talking the other day & we rattled off a few names of trainers that were around not long ago & it adds up to about 35-45 dogs per meeting not here like there was 2-3 years ago.

If a TAB timeslot was given, I am sure people will fill kennels quick smart. I know I would get 8-10 straight away.

But we have not heard a peep from anyone at the board. The club is in the black & travelling OK but need a few more dogs in the area. But thats not going to happen the way things have become so stagnant. Its really the diehards & desperates now who love the sport more then the money it returns them.

Its a real shame for the current board to sit there watching the industry die. A tab in the nth is the go.
I hear the lights from Beenleigh are going to Logan, if it ever gets off the ground.
Was reading through some old journals the other day and came across a letter to the editor, about dogs sweltering in the heat during the trip to Albion. Can just imagine the gridlock each afternoon around kingston rd aND this new site.

Dan, you said that you heard that the lights from Beenleigh are going to Logan, Have you heard anything else??
Has anyone heard anymore about another track around the South East area. This post has been a bit quiet since October. Does anyone from the Watchdog or QGBOTA have any updates on the track issues?
