Poor Bruce is confused! It was 10 MILLION Bruce! not 10K. Not to be sneezed at.
We all know what Bruce rhymes with...
Presently, in Qld, if you are fortunate enough to aquire or rear a good dog, the prizemoney in town isn't too shabby.
Would be double if greyhounds were autonomous, and Racing Qld not using our market share to subsidise the harness and thoroughbreds prizemoney and incentive schemes.
I have 2 ltters to be broken in this year & hope there's some city class there as the quality of opposition in town is currently on a downward spiral. Unless there is a miracle, it's not going to stop & consequently the prizemoney will start to decline too. Kev, totally agree, hopefully that's the miracle we need but like I said, now's not a bad time to have a good dog.

Yes, totally agree with that, Stevo...
Also, I believe the breeding incentives have been extended to next year. Seems RQ are doing a few more positive things lately...there's hope yet.

Sunday Mail editor Peter Gleeson states in todays Sunday Mail that new greyhound headquarters will be announced soon, but omits to mention greyhound stakeholders have been shafted by Labour and LNP government cronies on Racing Qld Boards for 8 years all reneging on the $10,000 000 pledge to replace the Parklands one turn track and condoned by every Racing Minister,C E O Brendan Parnell like all his predecessors has done nothing to rectify the greyhound welfare damage the loss of a one turn track causes and is oblivious to the fact that well over $100,000,000 has funded thoroughbred infrastructure while greyhound welfare continues to suffer.

I attended the very 1st greyhound meeting at the Gabba in the early '70s & have been involved ever since, specifically as an owner/breeder.. I have always & still think in terms of glass half full when it comes to our future.. hope history justifies my optimism

Kev,I totally agree and also thank Peter for his article, just flustrated that bar our first Board representative they have all been negligent by overseeing the deterioration of greyhound welfare for not demanding a replacement one turn track with the $10,000,000 pledged by the 2010 Labour Treasury, and every CEO and Racing Minister since 2010, pander only to thoroughbred infrastructure over $100,000,000 so far.

With all the talk with new facilities being built I've just seen the Redcliffe trotting track is about to have a major track overhaul. Has Racing Queensland ever give any consideration to maybe using this facility as it has plenty of space to construct a kennel block and the track design would accommodate a fantastic 1 turn greyhound track with all facilities already in place. Obviously Redcliffe harness is there for the long term as it just needs a facelift to make it a fantastic dual code complex. With the upgrade of the Gateway Motorway getting to the Redcliffe Peninsula is now going to be more accessible. As they only race 2 times per week it would be a life line to the sport club to have Greyhound Racing 2 or 3 times to utilise that facility

John. What this mob have done up here can only be described as unreasonable, & I too can't hold back anymore.
Who in their right mind would rip up a GRASS CIRCLE TRACK & replace it with new grass during the coldest period of the year, WINTER...And then declare it would be racing again in less than 4 weeks? ---> EXTERNAL LINK
Who in their right mind would do all of the ABOVE.....& then not TOP DRESS IT WITH SOIL? ---> EXTERNAL LINK
RQ is the answer.
The Bundaberg track has been closed for track renovations since 23rd of July 2018 which is now 6 weeks ago, & after looking at the track again today, it won't be opening for another 6 weeks. Without HEAT from the SUN, new grass roots can't be generated & the top soil will remain exposed & too unstable to race on.
Questions need to be asked AND ANSWERS need to be provided as to - 1. Why they did the works during winter. 2. Why they didn't top dress it immediately. 3. Why Trainers & Owners weren't alerted in advance of the renovation.
The outcome of this project couldn't have gone any worse for those that depend on this track. It's been handled poorly & exposes how incompetent those in charge can be.
& while I'm at it, WHY was BUNDABERG'S neighbouring track ROCKHAMPTON closed for track works 5 weeks later, while Bundaberg was still closed? This is bloody suicide for the industry in that area too as Townsville is 11 hours away & Brisbane 8...what options do they have. ---> EXTERNAL LINK Track works at both these tracks should have been done in reverse with Rocky first as its sand & Bundy last as it needs sun for the grass to grow.
This type of incompetency should not happen at this level. It's F@#K1NG KINDERGARTEN STUFF.....but what would we mere greyhound enthusiast no?

Steve.......I have previously worked on a turf farm.....growing.....cutting.....fertilizing......and laying turf.
Your second question.......I can answer that one for you.
After putting fertilizer down....then laying turf.......you water it and roll it. YOU DO NOT TOP DRESS IT IMMEDIATELY. The reason being it will die. The new grass has to root and bed in before top dressing can occur.
Every lawn that I have laid DOES NOT get top dressed for 12 months........if at all.
I went up and inspected the track after 2 weeks. I thought they had done a top job.......and the greenkeeper from the local Golf Course was looking after it. It was looking good.......and I have photos.

No grass in Bundy would be growing a mm with no rain.
Wondering with the amount spent that it wasnt considered to converting to loam.
From memory Gunnedah done theirs for 60k. A turf job this size would have been around 100k.
There was no $10k, only a promise of $10k. But that was umpteen governments, umpteen inquiries and umpteen administrations ago.

Well it is now 8 years since a Labor government pledged $10,000,000 to Racing Qld replace the Parklands one turn track,it appears we have another CEO beholden to the thoroughbreds only, who have in the meantime received OVER $100,000,000 for infrastructure projects while completely abandoning greyhound welfare for 8 years.
