Sue,It has been said before, the majority of trainers are on the southern to western sides of Brisbane. Hence the preference from many for Cronulla Park, yet there is no concern of the many north of the river. Similar to when Lawnton closed, many leads will be tossed away.It wont bother me one bit if there is no track for the northern participants, but lessening the number of tracks is not the way of the future nor is throwing trainers on the scrap heap. I bet if the Moreton shire donates a parcel of land for the Brisbane club, the authority will do what it could to prevent anything ongoing.

I cannot but wonder why they cannot call for support from the country clubs in eleviating the burdon of only racing on 2 tracks from here on in.

Seems to be no faith whatsoever in the product outside of the Metro area. A mentality that the two southern states have not got a problem with. Where would they be without regional & country centres....same as QLD. The dogs are getting dizzy going around in circles at the same place, night after night.

Rocky this week has 10 races with most having reserves & most being locals. Beam a line into Rocky and give a slot or two to a Northern club. They are setup to go with out any fuss. Give them Tuesday & Friday. Will have 10 races easy.

Would cost $130k to set up Bundy for TAB racing with Sky. Isnt this cheaper than the 40+mil for a new track. It is a stop gap & by all means not the long term answer. A couple of hours north for the Brisbane trainer, which hasnt stopped Paul Felgate or Keith Boan coming up her for the past few weeks. And many others make the trek on a weekly basis. The pool of dogs in Rocky is quite strong at the momment as too is the potential for a stronger pool in Bundy if racing was to head in this direction.

Time to think outside the square.

Brian that might be just a bit too far outside the square, Rockhampton is around 640k's from Brisbane......Travelling to Rocky and back to Brisbane is not a day trip.

Hey Dwyer, the Moreton shire now mate. Prior to the amalgamation of the three shires, Caboolture wanted to change their by-laws to equal those of Pine Rivers and Redcliffe, One clown voted against. But mate the Shire is going ahead and with a few hundred acres with development in mind, they just might come to the party. Do they want to expand this industry and take it to another step, or keep going backwards by just looking after a few in their own back yards.

Dan, Caboolture had a by law that allowed for racing greyhounds then they changed it to make you have 50 acres before they would let you build a kennel. I went through all of this with the council when i lived there.

Sue, It cannot all be about 'putting it on' for the Brisbane trainer. Its about trying to save the sport as a whole in QLD.
Many others in country areas have a lot invested in the sport.

Sure some can travel to Bundy but Rocky would be too far. Same as not many travel from up here to race down there. And even less, if any from Rocky that travel south. We get many trainers that come down to race from Rocky. Townsville, Mackay & Cairns can all draw on each others pools of dogs to alternate meeting also. How long some of those clubs will survive is also up in the air.

How many trainers make the trek from Sydney to race at Lismore & Casino for each meeting? They have their own pool of dogs to run meetings twice a week.

It is all too narrow minded in QLD about all having to race in the metro area. It isnt the same in other states.

Brian Terry, respect your feelings about country racing but something has to done NOW about racing in the south east corner.

Albion Pk is no good for the many argued reasons.

Ipswich will go eventually.

The proposed 2 track complex is the way to go, racing at least 4 times weekly, owned outright by the greyhound industry & managed by a talented business person like Brian Kutner, thats if you can get him.

I have not been in Greyhounds for long and it is a hobby but i am a director of three different development co.and have some knowledge in this field. i believed the proposal for logan had been put out for tender and the only option was watpac. I believe the figure quoted is very high but do not know the variables involved The comparison of two or three tenders is a must.I will say there seems to be a need for more disclosure of the facts before anyone could decide anything.

In reality, a lot of participants left the industry because of Lawntons closure, bringing something back would be ideal. Having all racing from the one venue is cutting corners when each club should have the opportunity to run their own establishment, and has nothing to do with the authority if one does. If an opportunity is there, the Brisbane club should grasp it as it will give them vision toward the future. The current future looks grim while the majority sit on their arse's in wait. So what if a majority live in your back yard, the industry is going backward and needs to expand for the future of greyhound racing.

Brian, a northern club put it to Sky Racing and they were all for it. But the GRA said NO.

I personally think the best site would be around Eagleby, the land is still basically cheap the location on the motorway would suit North South East West. A mate of mine has 100 acres there says it's worth about 4 million. Does that make 2 million 50 acres.

That particular Gold coast brisbane corridor has enormous potential for future, lets assume the track/tracks and facilities took up 10 acres, it would be a great sleeper to own 40 acres for the future of our industry. If anyone wishes to communicate privately.

Why then dont the Gold Coast Club collect their $10 mil compensation from the govt & buy a block of land earmarked for a future track site in that very corridor you suggest?

Why hasnt the Logan site been gifted as expected to the GQL by now?

The 10 mill has to go to the contruction of a new complex. Gold Coast club should have been out there long ago, but are like a puppet with strings. If it keeps going the way it is, and clubs dont stand alone with their own identity, as QGL will have control over this supposibly new complex. Then it will be all downhill from there.

Good question Brian.

Maybe we are run by procrastinators, perhaps they feel compelled to utilise government wasteland. There maybe an agenda we will never know. "Just jokin"

What i think is the real problem is this, the powers to be, do not think 10 mill will do the job.

The Gold Coast Club can't receive the compensation, it will be paid to Greyhounds Queensland.

Would it be wise to purchase land until we find out if Cronulla Park will be gifted to Greyhounds Queensland?

I think the main problem is that stakeholders are left in the dark concerning the current situation.

My guess is the Government won't gift the land while GQL insist on building a $43 mil complex which they currently cannot finance, maybe if they propose to build an affordable $10 million complex the Government will move on things.

If at some later stage when Harness Racing Qld agree to sell Albion Park (which I think they will) then Greyhounds Queensland can propose to expand the complex.

But if they are going to wait for the sale of Albion Park we could be years and years without another track and the $10 million compensation could be lost.

I have heard the "free" land is on a site used previously to dispose of contaminated waste and will take plenty of dough ray me to fix.

I think if thats the case Paul Felgate won't be happy we may end up saving on lights!!!

No it is a landfill site, it used to be a rubbish tip (not contaminated waste dump) but has been closed for 25 years. Isn't The Meadows built on an old tip site?

Yeah Sue I think it is.

This post seems to only have input from a very limited # of people so far. It would be great to get a broad section of opinions and ideas to build upon.

I hope the old Aussie apathy isn't alive and well in QLD greyhound racing.
