Kev,

There was no $10k, only a promise of $10k. But that was umpteen governments, umpteen inquiries and umpteen administrations ago.

RACING QUEENSLAND TO RECRUIT NEW CEO
21 MARCH 2018

EXTERNAL LINK
The Chair of Racing Queensland, Steve Wilson AM has announced the resignation of the CEO Dr Eliot Forbes. Dr Forbes will provide ongoing support and advice to assist with the transition to a new CEO.

Dr Forbes said he had enjoyed working with the current and former Ministers for Racing, the RQ Board and all of the passionate and committed Queensland racing industry participants across the state.

I would like to thank all of the team at Racing Queensland for their tremendous efforts in helping drive and enhance benefits for the racing participants of Queensland.

Mr Wilson thanked Dr Forbes for his dedicated service and acknowledged his role in the substantial progress made at Racing Queensland during the past two years.

Dr Forbes led a significant turnaround for racing in this state which provides a base for further growth. He goes with our very best wishes for the future, he said.

RQ achieved a $20 million turnaround in 2016/17 and worked with the State Government to promote the importance of non-TAB thoroughbred racing resulting in a $70 million, four-year commitment to the sector as a Community Service Obligation.

Further we negotiated improved arrangements with Tabcorp as a consequence of their merger with Tatts, Mr Wilson said.

One of our key strategic objectives is to increase returns to participants and the improved financials allowed us to increase prize-money by $15 million per annum. That money is now making a difference to all stakeholders.

Mr Wilson said support to clubs had increased as had infrastructure spending with the development of a comprehensive long-term infrastructure plan for $120 million over the next 5 years. A national recruitment process is underway to find the best person to lead Racing Queensland forward from its much-improved base.

We have exciting times ahead. Our reinvigorated winter and summer carnival structure has resulted in increased wagering and we want to focus on how to ensure this growth and support continues. It is pleasing that our new Racing Minister has demonstrated his interest and commitment to racing and we look forward to working closely with him.

The current General Manager of Racing Simon Stout is appointed as the interim CEO.

I have accepted the Chairmans offer to perform in this important position. There is a lot to look forward to and a great foundation has been laid resulting in increased industry sentiment as we approach the respective Winter Carnivals, Mr Stout said.

From another site it is reporting that it was a forced Resignation (sacked) by the Racing Minister.

But guess we will have to believe the Press Release.

Perhaps the Eagle Farm fiasco tipped the bucket on him, if he can't oversee the growing of grass successfully they may have had concerns going forward

He was certainly backward in replacing our 10 year ALP confiscated Parklands one turn track, which has caused irreparable damage to thousands of greyhounds welfare.

Presently, in Qld, if you are fortunate enough to aquire or rear a good dog, the prizemoney in town isn't too shabby.

This morning I received a very thoughtful email from RQ.

It reads...
"Congratulations! What a thrill to win at Ipswich with Click Cowan in Pathways Novice/Class 3/431 Race 2 on 8th June 2018."

Race replay
Click the image below to watch the replay on the Racing Queensland website.

It then displays the results with my boy's name next to a beautiful Gold Cup and the other placings.

"We wish you the best of luck at the next race meeting.
Thank you for supporting racing in Queensland."

Well, well done, RQ!!!
What a lovely touch.
Made me feel all warm inside.
Sincerely, a very nice gesture indeed.

Anyway, it seems that RQ are now at least trying to encourage somewhat.
The PROMOTION side of things is still a little bit quiet though.
Hopefully they can get that bulldozing ahead with their promotions manager.

All jolly good.

We still have a smidgen of a problem with breeding numbers, so I hope they extend the breeding incentives beyond next year...it will need to be to have any hope at all.

Gap, as I understand it, have problems with a shortage of intakes, which is not good, because at the end of the year their adoption numbers will look TERRIBLE and we will have all sorts of antis raving and ranting (and rightly so) that the industry is not doing anywhere near enough to rehome the dogs.
We can't blame that on the downturn in breeding numbers just yet because that has not hit the retiring group.
In fact, you you would think the numbers of retirees have INCREASED because of all the fighting and failing to pursue...you can only guess why that is.

The poor old grading department is having a shocker of a time trying to come up with ideas to improve the lack of nominations.
What a nightmare job they must have ATM.
They do a wonderful job in there but there is only so much one can do with reducing numbers, and boy, aren't they reducing fast!

Yes indeed, it's no Picaso, is it.

After receiving that rather warm email this morning, I thought...
"Gee, perhaps this mob aren't that bad at all and they are trying to get us back on track!"

They can't be any worse than the last mob under Libs who failed to re-instate our rightful ownership of Albion Park!
The ones who raped and pillaged our prize money and appearance money to the tune of well over $10,000,000 and counting!
The ones who promised $1,000,000 to GAP after the TAB agreement and just disappeared into thin air!

Surely not!

So, I got to thinking, as I do, and came up with a brilliant idea!

The current RQ have recently given a prize money increase to the industry.
The problem with that is the amount we race for now is still well short of the money we raced for 3 years ago before we were financially sexually assaulted by the other crew.
The increase had to be at least DOUBLE what it was, and closer to TREBLE to get us back to where we were 3 YEARS AGO!!!
Even with that result, because of inflation, we would have been STILL BEHIND, RQ!!!!!

So, because the Greyhound folk are a forgiving bunch, I reckon if you raise the prize money BACK TO WHERE IT WAS 3 years ago, (or plus a wee bit more to consider inflation) keep the breeding incentives going to well after the new year, the next breeding season might just escalate to heights the numbers need to be to sustain the industry.
There are at least 2 years of pain to endure before we can get back to a realistic medium IF you act NOW!!!
Between now and then, if you follow my suggestion many more dogs will come here to race for the money...more Broods will migrate here because of the incentives, and YOUR GRADING DEPT CAN SLEEP BETTER knowing the road to recovery is finally being laid.

Don't have the money to do that?
Yes you do, because those rascally wabbits before you kind bunch took the money and it went to....?
All you have to do is follow the money trail and find out where it landed and give it back to its rightful owners...GREYHOUNDS.

I have faith in this current RQ and I'm sure they'll do the right thing.
Yes Siree, I do.

Good onya, RQ, keep up the good work.

Onya Stevo,

You will probably get the rebate next Thurs...pay day.
Only took a week for mine.
Follow it up but the woman in grading I must say was pretty well straight on to it.

Might have had something to do with my good looks and charm though...

Today's Qld budget, which you can find here ---> EXTERNAL LINK
Below is a snippet about the increased betting tax to 15%, which you can find here ---> EXTERNAL LINK

4.5.4

Gambling taxes and levies

A range of gambling activities are subject to State taxes and levies. Total gambling tax and levy
collections are estimated to grow by 9.5% in 2018-19, and 5.5% on average over the five years to
2021-22, with these growth rates supported by increased revenue from the new point of
consumption tax on betting (betting tax).
Responding to changing consumer behaviour facilitated by increased use of online and
interactive technologies, a 15% betting tax will apply from 1 October 2018. The revised date for
commencement allows for industry preparation for commencement of the tax, post enactment.
Forecasts as at the 2017-18 MYFER were based on the betting tax applying to online wagering
only and before allocation of proceeds. Some of these allocations are subject to commercial-inconfidence
discussions/negotiation.

Budget Strategy and Outlook 2018-19
60
The betting tax will be implemented in line with other states and territories including South
Australia, Victoria, and the Australian Capital Territory. As such, the tax will apply to the net
wagering revenue of betting operators licensed in Australia from bets placed by customers in
Queensland. This change, and the gross revenue amount excluding allocations of proceeds
subject to commercial-in-confidence discussions/negotiation, account for the increased gross
revenue from this tax since the 2017-18 MYFER.
Smaller betting operators will not incur a betting tax liability as the rate of 15% applies to taxable
wagering revenue exceeding an annual tax-free threshold amount of $300,000. No tax will be
paid on a betting operators revenue up to and including $300,000 in a financial year.
Reconciliation against the threshold in the annual return, and refund provisions for any
overpayment, will ensure this. In 2018-19 there will be a proportionate reduction of the tax-free
threshold to reflect the 1 October commencement. The new point of consumption betting tax
replaces the existing place of supply wagering tax that applied only to the sole retail wagering
licensee in Queensland.

Would be double if greyhounds were autonomous, and Racing Qld not using our market share to subsidise the harness and thoroughbreds prizemoney and incentive schemes.
