From my experience being around & training K9's most of my life, training K9's is a tad over rated. Anybody with a sound overall knowledge of K9's from dietary requirements 2 fitness programs can train winners. Good K9's train themselves folks ! TRUST ME ! "doing your time" in a successful kennel 4 a decent period of time is a tip I would pass onto newcomers 2 the caper as learning from successful trainers stands you in good stead when you go out own your own 2 train. Its just a matter of correct "management" + a plain common sense attitude towards the preparation of K9's 2 get good results from em. But saying that , common sense is only common sense IF you know what common sense is , in regards 2 training K9's ! I have seen people do some real strange things with K9's in my day & totally f-ck what could have been nice types if they had a clue what they were doing but that comes with experience I suppose as I have made plenty of mistakes in my day as well BUT as long as you learn from those mistakes & DON'T make the same errors again then that is a good thing. Its a constant learning curve in my opinion folks as there IS ALWAYS something new 2 learn about K9's. A top notch feeding program , attention 2 fitness preparations, fast complete recovery from work/racing etc etc , quick & correct injury detection & physio are paramount BUT KNOWING YOUR ANIMAL , training each K9 as a individual & what makes it "tick" mentally are my top 3 training theories as training K9's is really a "mind game" & that is where the big improvements are 2 be made from my experiences. Also you MUST put in 110% into training your K9's etc etc if you want 2 be successful otherwise DON'T DO IT until you can put EVERYTHING you have got into em cos you WON'T get the results you crave 4 if you are "slack" with em. Just my opinions folks.

You only had to work for Graeme to know how good he was with greyhounds .
Victoria greyhound racing was once on the brink of collapse devastated by parvo .
All the best vets , the best thinkers , we're trying desperately to find a way to save the industry . Guess who found the solution to the crisis- GB . The tall poppy .

larry, no one is saying bate was not good with dogs, and had plenty of knowledge, BUT he also raced outside the rules to the disadvantage of others racing by the rules.

no worries Kevin. Regarding Bate, do you think the only times he offended he was caught?? Would his record not suggest he was a serial offender.

Tom many trainers have been pinged for many offences and some have been in the meat in Bread and in some natural products that have had a positive reading when on the ingredients on the package it says there is no caffeine or other products that are on the banned list .

This is where you have to look at an intent to defraud our was the intent not to defraud and it was either a ingredient mix up at the point of manufacture in the packaging or was it from a person who had all intentions to gain something from it

by drugging the dog intentionally .

Many of our Top Trainers today all have had a positive for some kind of therapeutic remedy and many of these readings are so minute in the Quantity that it is like a drop in a swimming pool the amounts that they can now test for and have been able to test for many years .

I think everyone thinks all these big trainers hold a Chemistry degree by the amount of people who think drugging is wide spread ..

The FACTS are and say we are cleaner in Greyhound racing than WE HAVE EVER BEEN BEFORE ....Its just some of you seem to have this problem with Trainers who are successful and this is where you all let yourself down to a point that it tarnishing everyone with the same brush .. and many of the comments are from NON TRAINERS ....

People are saying he was not good ! for example his use or lack of use of a bath .
My point was you only had to work for him to know how silly it is to try and belittle him
The parvo resolution is one small example of the big picture .
Some of the ' others ' owe GB big time and I'm one of them

Larry fantastic to see someone come out and defend a great Greyhound man .....

I did not even know GB but i do now the amount of time and energy he put into an industry that was dieing a slow death at one time and lets not count the amount of HOURS he put in out of his own time to fix problems for so many people and to take away HIS NAME FROM GEELONG IS A DISGRACE AND THE GRV AND THE GEELONG CLUB SHOULD ALL BE ASHAMED .....

Now if I wanted to go down the list of LIFE MEMBERS ON ANY CLUB HONOUR BOARD I could point out many of them who had a tarnished past but back then it was very much accepted the trainers used to either pull up a dog or make it go harder and we have many people who had great race dogs but always seemed to get beat when in a Quaddie race at short money favorites ...and many here would of known these people from years ago whose main objective was to BEAT THE BOOKIES AT ALL COSTS .......End of story

In Today's climate we have so much to gain by winning all the time and this is why most people take no risks at all because there is so much stake money to lose if you get it wrong .

True GB mentored many young people he travelled to New Zealand in their early days to help out at a seminar , his trial track helped numbers upon numbers go away with their dogs and win races they wouldn't have won . People use to come from interstate to look at his setup and to replicate his methods and go away to win races they wouldn't have won . He's a hall of famer true and true . He gave to the ' others ' his only problem I could see was he goes for hawthorn . He and I bought 2 pups once Roy trease x newmore glennys he called his hawk and I called mine eagle because in those days there wasn't a freo team . I owe GB and so do a lot of ' others '

I personally don't think Reg's approach 2 training K9's would greatly vary 2 much when compared 2 a lot of others around in my opinion. He had quite a few very fast K9's 2 mentor in his days which makes ANYBODY look good. If ya haven't got the cattle 2 work with you will never win the big races everybody wants 2 win Ivan... Great K9"s train themselves in my book m8. Regards...

I found this bit interesting-
Kay says no trainer should be without his own straight track. I cant believe anyone can train without their own straight, he said. Even putting a dog into a car and driving it 10 minutes or so to a straight track is not ideal.

I think you woukd realise that all of the great trainers have their own straight track or use one next door, the great man Allen Wheeler was one of the early greats who realised the significance of a straight what I did not know was RK
uses a WM even slowly for 10 minutes each day.

despite them all claiming that there are no secrets in training dogs, they all thought they had one and they all got caught.

it will all be in the final chapter

I agree Steve

I realize that our mistrust of the future makes it hard to give up the past.

Looking back isn't going to help you. Moving forward is the thing you have to do.

I believe it's a great victory for the TRUTH and i also believe the PTB are now faced with more battles in the Courts that they cannot win .

We have all seen what has happened to our Industry and some within our industry have been labeled as live baiters .
Many of those people have a Mental battle to also deal with today and many today have nothing left to fight on to the Supreme Courts .

I think it's a great win for a great man and i think it's a win for everyone else affected by the actions of the PTB and i hope the PTB now start to understand we all live under the Law of this great Land Australia and we all have the right of Innocence until proven guilty not the other way round ..

I hope Reg comes back to racing
