They come from so many walks of life, whenever were in strife
Some are female, and some are male, with courage that is rife
The hours are long, the work is dirty, the rewards are trite
There on call for everyone, whether it be day or darkest night

This courage is not taught, it seems to be of an inner sort
Handed down these many years, from where the Anzacs fought
A kindred spirit borne of friendship, when things are fraught
To see a sweaty blackened face, when hope had turned to nought

How often they will stay, whenever things get really wildly crook
Encouraging with firm suggestions, for the decisions you had took
Telling you in future, to follow the rules in the fire safety book
Somethings are so more dangerous, because they did'nt take a look

Sadly, there are many tragic deaths of Firey's, and the public too
Everyday we stand in awe, and read the unselfish things you often do
This nation stands as one, in a thankful tribute to everyone of you
With the mixture of drought and fires, this land is so thirsty to

In years to come this story will be told, and be so often yearly read
About the bravery, and the silent courage, that you heroes widely spread.

Hear hear Ron, to the Fire fighters! Don't get the recognition they deserve, nor enough support for funding from Govt.
It's a bloody disgrace to have to run raffles to buy equipment!

Whole heartedly agree, they need all the support and donations that they can get...Don't make any donations via charities though, send any donations direct.
I am even p#ssed off with the Salvo's, they are one of the few religions that I have/had faith in over past years. Many months ago I donated a substantial sum (to me anyway) to 'The Farmers Fund' via the Salvos' whom I have/had always donated too and didn't even receive a receipt until I emailed them, someone from head office phoned me and apologised and when I asked where the money was actually sent too, he said nowhere in particular, our funds are consolidated and handed out anywhere that it is required, country people in general, councils and the homeless, etc., etc.
When I complained and said that I specifically donated to The 'Help Our Farmers Fund', the reply was we don't specifically send it to one source, it is spread across all forms of need.' Naturally I Gave him both barrels when pointing out that the charity drive was 'Very Specific', no reply was forthcoming but every month I still get personal requests for 'donations'!
NOT GOOD ENOUGH...After running cost admin and other distributions the actual 'Farmers Fund' probably received less than 20% at best of the total ($*#&).
