Yes he was great wasn't he...it was long time ago but I bought, with my pocket money, his record of 'Long Tall Sally' and surprised that the other side was another hit 'Tutti Frutti' (at least I think it was). This doesn't happen today, although they don't release many singles for shop purchase these days.

What a revelation he was in those days, I remember my mother was aghast when she heard me playing TUTTI FRUTTI...I must admit, I also had the lyrics WRONG for many years, believing it was something very rude at the time. (lol)

The other great Double sided Hit record and probably the most successful 45rpm record ever released was Elvis Presleys' HOUND DOG (went to No1) with perhaps my favourite Elvis song, DON'T BE CRUEL (went to No2) on the flip side....unheard of doublle hit record, then and now.
What an era of music that was, it led the way to today's' modern music revolution.
The list of stars that led the way were nearly endless, some of the most notables are these, what a list...

Little Richard, Elvis Presley, Bill Haley. Gene Vincent, Fats Domino, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Everly Brothers, The Platters, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ricky Nelson, Johnny Cash, Eddie Cochrane, Carl Perkins, Duane Eddy, Bobby Darin, Ritchie Valens, The Diamonds, and 100 or so more.

Then there was the Aussie Innovators of rock, led by the early icons...
The great Johnny O'Keefe & Col Joye,Russell Morris, Normie Rowe, Billy Thorpe, The Easybeats, etc., etc., etc.,
Not to leave out the talented NZ rocker and another favourite of mine, Johnny Devlin.

Perhaps the greatest era of all time, for both music and the world to live in...PERIOD!

Sure was Ray. You could take so many trips without the wire, mateship
was genuine, flowers bloomed, rainbows were frequent, and you made
love not war.
Some other great rockers were... Bo Diddley, Sam Cooke, Johnny Burnette,
Roy Orbison, LLoyd Price, Ray Charles, Freddy Fender, Dion & The Belmonts, Bobby Darin, Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, The Big Bopper, King Curtis, Jethro Tull, The Coasters, The Ventures, Don Wilks, The Drifters, Stray Cats.
B.B.King, The Righteous Bros, Connie Francis, Brenda Lee, Wanda Jackson,
and The Beatles.
Another good Aussie one...Lonnie Lee. Ahh the memmories.

There are so many more...

You are 'A Stranger On The Shore' with that one Tezza.

Acker Bilk was no rocker. But his music was fantastic...the clarinet is a great instrument and is in vogue from the days of Woody Herman.

Don't know about this Jordan fella Ray. Seems to be travelling 'Forty
Miles Of Bad Road' at times, methinks somewhere he might have played
"Soap On A Rope" in some "Dirty Old Town" with the Pogues!

No way Ray with all those muso's you listed leading the way to today's' modern music revolution.

Clearly Little Richard and Chuck Berry for example got their musical inspiration from Michael J. Fox, you just have to watch 'Back to the Future' to realise that.

A Wop bamalooma a wop bamboom.
Sorry guys, that is the stupidest song ever written. (Although Fruit Salad by the Wiggles is a title contender)
The highlight of the song seems to be the fact that Daisy and crazy rhyme.
(Or is it Davey???)

Stupidest Song ever? What about " A Horse with no name"? America Or John Paul Young song "Standing In the Rain"? I think that was the title. Babushka by Kate Bush? was a beauty.

Babushka was a gem.
The horse with no name, well those guys wrote that song after spending 3 weeks in Kyogle eating nothing but field mushrooms.

Agadoo doo doo bush pineapple round the tree???
Hey you the rocksteady crew, show us what you do make a break make a move.
Ice ice baby.

Actually I take it back, tutti frutti would be top 10 but the competition for number 1 is very fierce.

The lyrics to MACARTHUR PARK were pretty weird too, but what a fabulous piece music that was and still is...mind blowing in more ways than one. (lol)

The instrumental run in the middle of that song is just brilliant.

:What's Up"! Who let the dogs out into Macarthur Park, and ate the cake in the rain! Probably spoilt Dicky Harris's Afternoon Delight!
