The. News is out Micheal Martin is now the head man in the Irish Government. Will he now reflect on his words to Ted Hegarty & Myself over a cup of tea in the restaurant in our beloved stadium. The words are still fresh in my mind, HAROLDS CROSS is an Iconic Stadium, sure it cant be allowed close.
It did close and was sold by Mr. Martins fellow Cork man Mr. Creed. Sold to a dog man Richard Bruton, the then Minister for Agriculture.
Well Mr. Creed is now gone (No Loss). Mr. Bruton is now also gone. Mr. Martin is head of the house.
The new Minister for Agriculture is none other than an ex IGB employee, Mr. Barry Cowan. Minister Cowan having worked in the Industry is aware of the type of people he needs on the HRI & IGB Boards, He must Immediately implement action to see that both Sporting bodies under his care are served by persons with a knowledge of the Horse & Greyhound Industry. For too long now we have had lackeys imposed upon us as a result of their knowledge and association of a political party.
There is a new broom in Agriculture and it is NOW time to sweep out the current bunch, I speak of those only with no knowledge of the Greyhound Industry / Sport.
I also speak on behalf of the Greyhound Industry only. The Horse Racing sector is Led by Joe Keeling, a man who has had racehorses for many years and attends meetings throughout the country. A man who travelled to horse racing as a hobby and did not only become a fan when he was appointed to HRI.
Greyhound Racing & Breeding must be looked upon as an Industry due to the number of people it employs. However it must also be looked upon as a sport an outlet for thousands of people from all over the Country. Many of whom have no interest other than keeping a few dogs. Many of these people are steeped in the Greyhound history and are carrying on a family tradition.
Having worked for the IGB, Barry Cowan has a fair idea of where the Industry failures emanate from, he is well aware the leadership of the IGB is lacking greatly in a knowledge of the game.
On a personal level I want to congratulate Barry Cowan on his rise to Minister of Agriculture. He should immediately have an investigation into the Finances of the IGB something similar to that which took place at the FAI and has now been handed over to the Garda for further investigation.
Many in the Greyhound Industry are very concerned as to how two thirds of the 16.8 million from the Greyhound betting levy was spent in the first three months of this year. Many are also concerned as to where the proceeds of the sale of Harolds Cross has gone to. Why has none of the monies been spent on the refurbishing of Shelbourne Park. Pennies have been spent on painting the access points of the steps to the stands and the arrival of a dog ambulance for removing injured dogs from the track. A lovely sight for the Antis to see. There new story will be, that many dogs were getting injured they had to buy an ambulance to ferry the dogs off the track.
Heres to progress in the Industry.

So Micheal dont forget the Iconic Greyhound Stadium that was Harolds Cross.
