They have to make a permanent set of rules for eligibility...

My rules...Where you first are registered as a player for 3 yrs...regardless of age...

e.g. Bill plays for ??? in NSW...under 8's and 9's but the family moves to Qld where he plays the rest of his yrs...Qld S of O player...

Bob plays 3 yrs under 6' 7' 8's in NSW for ??? family moves to W.A. he later makes S OF O NSW player...

NO PLAYER WHO IS BORN IN ANOTHER COUNTRY AND PLAYS THERE FOR 3 YRS. IS ALLOWED TO PLAY S of O...

As long as he they are black and white,as he Maroons have been bending them for decades.
I'd just make it wherever your first play league,at whatever age.
It's State of Origin....origin being the operative word.

Bit harsh if you move interstate after only one year as say a seven year old...but if you played for 3 yrs. you would think a kid would then have some alligence to were he was playing...

Grant,it's State of ORIGiN.
Origins are where you're from, not where you played footy.
That's my opinion,anyway,and even that's taking liberties.
You're true State of Origin would be where you are born, though even I'd say that's taking it a bit far.

Where did you find that rule Scott.
The concept began with QLD players returning to represent their state, the state the began their football careers. Rules obviously had to be drawn up and where you first played senior football was one.

funny though ,if it was on the other foot and the blues were winning ,qld would have run out of excuses after two years lol, but you guys would still be whinging , YES 7 years later.

Depends who's foot you was talking to Owen. Now if you was talking to my foot, it would tell you that it dont give a damn who wins as long as it is a good even game and not decided by a ref's call. When myself and good friends of mine played we played to win, as did the boys i coached over a number of years. However i also knew how to accept defeat and built that same attitude in the boys. It is funny though, because after the siren there are no excuses and no point in having a whinge. Maybe it is funny that the BLUES are losing and their supporters are having a seven year whinge.

Not all of us Dan.
I never blamed THAT decision on NSW losing the first game.
I have, however, being saying for 15-20 years that QLD have rorted the rule book in regards to where their players come from.
You're right what you say, winnings great, but Knowing how to accept defeat is important, too.

I agree that they have to come up with a hard and fast rule about firstly if a player is eligible for Origin at all and if so who they will play for well before they are about to be a possibility of selection.

It is funny though when all the talk of it not being fair and players only playing for their state of birth etc that there isn't a lot of mention of names like Tamou, Nagas, McManus, El Masri and Sterling to name a few.

It goes on both sides of the border and I think we'd all like it decided once and for all so we can just bask in the glory of another series victory!!!
QLDER!!
:o)

I sort of did...

I wouldn't begrudge El Masri as he played all his league in NSW...

EXTERNAL LINK
But Tamou...NO WAY...!!!

He played his junior football in N.Z. and represented N.Z. as a junior and senior( N.Z. Maori's)

EXTERNAL LINK
Sterling is a BLUE...Born in Qld but didn't start playing until he was living in Wagga Wagga...

EXTERNAL LINK
So out of those 3...2 played there 1st games and continued playing only in NSW...

The other started playing in N.Z. & represented N.Z.

Scott both states have used(rorted) the system to their advantage, not just Qld and the rule is where you first play senior. I think we all know who controls the game mate and they dont wear maroon. When out on the paddock you do whatever it takes to win and seems nowdays with the games executives its playon well before the whistle is even blown.

Doug,Adrian Lam was a PNG captain????
Sterling at least grew up in Wagga.
Anyway, cut the crap and just make it where you play your first footy...not seniors, not graded, not representative, just footy.
Simple,a hard and fast rule,done.
If you played U6's in Mount Isa,hen moved to Canberra, you're a QLDer.
The rules leave things open to the discretion of officials and players themselves.....how is that??
