That's terrific if you could forecast both the 2nd Pakistani batting performance and the weather?!
Like I said it's a team sport and 'winning' is the name of the game, no place for Prima Donna's or personal records, if they come in course of the game unfolding all good, otherwise tough titties!

Who cares...but for the record here are the circumstances, the series was already won by England so the result was a non event.

Sad to hear of the passing of former English Quick, Bob Willis
Always gave 100% when bowling, and never heard a bad word about him.

Like Courtney Walsh never seemed to break down. Not Like our Aussie SOFTIES.

RIP Big Fella. A true competitor & Gentleman.

Nick named Chook as they said he run in to bowl like one. I was there in Leeds in 81 when he cleaned us up (8/43)in the 2nd innings. Lillee and Marsh's got the 500/1 bet on odds placed by Godfrey Evans (bookies odds man) who subsequently got sacked by the bookies after that. You'd like this Huss Mockers had backed the Aussies at 3/1 for 10 pounds at the start of the test at the tent at the ground. I didn't take the VAT 10% option up front only ie: on wager amount but would pay the tax if they won 10% of winnings. So in short I didn't pay any Tax but I didn't win either. Could of been when the Mocking started backing the Aussies in that unlosable test maybe Lille got word I had a bet on us and told Bucchas to join him in a 10 quid wager coz the Mock was on. - Macwollie
BTW RIP Chook

I do(as well as many other Australians), that's why I asked the question. You cld argue the same here, a 2 test series against the Paki's, the result was already decided.....let Davey bat on.
He's not a captains @rsehole Paine (actually he is an @rsehole), Warner getting the record was far more important for Aus cricket than winning that test imho.

In the long run what are you going to remember Aust winning the 2nd Test against Pakistan or Warner's 400+ world record ?

There's no one at the helm of Aus cricket that can make a correct call.

I agree with Ray, Rhyno there is no "I" in Team. Your right it was only Pakistan, on a Dead Flat track. The No7 Paki spin bowler made a "Ton"!!

Yeah I also think Paine! is just that.
I can remember Ian or Greg Chappell declaring when a player was in the nineties, years ago. Can't remember the player though!

Only because the batman goes by the name of Dave Warner!
Funny thing is, if I remember correctly, after sandpaper gate,YOU actually declared that he should never be picked to play for Australia again, now you want him to have the test batting record...go figure! (lol)

not at all just about Davey.....I still stand by what I said with sandpaper gate

Who the hell is 'Kev', and what's he got to do with me anyway.

In any case, you are the one with the 'agenda', not me, I'm simply replying to your question!!!

There is no doubt that Warner & Pucovski are the 2 best openers on shown form, the worry is, both have been out with injury and have not played for a while, as well, their fitness would be below 100% so despite the fact that on paper, we have the opening problem solved, the danger is that they may not yet be in best form condition and too fresh...we shall soon see and hopefully they step in where they left off and fond best form instantly.
Besides having 'opener' problems, Australia's entire batting is very out of sorts at the moment, particularly SMITH, he is definitely stale as his habit of moving across in front of his stumps is now coming home to roost and failing him, he has to be at his supreme best to be able to pull this bad habit off again. It is a very dangerous move and it is only his great eye and ability that has allowed him to continually get away with it.

Once again the batting gate has been left open, with pathetic
performances from those picked to do so. What must the bowlers
be thinking!
All this talk about the return of past players, there is only
one who merits his return, and that is Warner, at least he does
play his shots, and is a fierce competitor. Young Pukowski will do the same.
It is high time for some of the selectors to be dropped, most
especially those that backed Burns. Hohns has long used his past
used date, and Langer is not the most inspiring coach.
Ricky Ponting should be coach, or Dizzy Gillespie, somebody with
a desperate will to win attitude.

You know Ron, our batsmen seem to have lost the art of playing well forward, I notice that young GREEN handled the bowling more comfortably than them all, he defended with straight bat, well forward and close to his pads all the time, unfortunately, he was out to a 'pull shot' that he played off the front foot when it was a back foot shot, but he is young, learning, and has the right technique defensively.
That 'pain in the arse' Aussie opener from years ago, Bill Lawry had the right theory, he just didn't play enough variety of shots, even though in his repertoire, but he succeeded in England and India when others failed. His technique was simple, always play forward unless the ball is short enough to hook, pull or cut. Whilst he was painfully slow, in his 'famous' series on a notorious wet track, he batted through the side and was 105 not out at the end.
With a partner like Warner, Australia needs another 'rock' like him that protects their wicket at all costs, if we could get those century opening stands going, the rest of them might find their form instead of having nervously, virtually open the innings.

Is this game coming down to the Davey factor!
The top five batting lineup, is like a brittle
peanut bar at the moment. All standing too flat
footed, and prodding!
