Hi all
With arguably the greatest greyhound competition in world starting this week i thought it would be fun to start a thread so people could post their opinions on who they see winning it this year (also add your reasons if you wish). Also like to add if anyone is thinking of having a flutter i strongly recommend using Boylesports as your bookmaker to place your bets with (hope this isn't seen as me trying to advertise the business i do have my reasons) reasons being is firstly there generous sponsorship of the competition. Secondly there brilliant special offer where if you dog is eliminated in the first 3 rounds your money is refunded, so basically your bet starts at the quarter final stage with the added bonus your getting the first round odds on the dog. Anyway here's mine i have three

Holdem Spy 20/1.....very good competition dog and very unlucky last year to miss out because of injury at a late stage

Priceless Lassie 66/1 ...not the kind of dog i would usually go for in a derby being a bitch and so young , but was very impressed with her when winning her stake in Youghal and definitely looks like a bitch that will keep progressing though the comp with her run style

Droopys Nidge 10/1JF.....Great dog

Charlie i think people should ask about the elimination in first 3 rounds promotion....
im led to believe it only applies to NEW accounts being opened and this being 1st bet on new account....

OK ...i've rung them the offer applies to all customers new and current...BUT it only applies to the first dog backed so if you're backing two or more (like i did) the refund only applies to the 1st one you placed.also please note only the win part of each way bets is refunded (but that's standard anyways in all promotions)

edit also only applies to bets placed before the start of the comp

I would love to see Droopys ward for his owner and paul young win it if none of my 3 picks bets don't , i actually thought he had the English derby sewn up turning the last bend. There's a few tough heats but with 4 qualifiers i think most of the "expected ones" will be fine
of my 3 i'm happy enough with two of them and their draws but really dislike the idea of Lassie being drawn right next to "the rougue" (as someone recently described him) Jaytee Seville, but hopefully he behaves

Nidge is undoubtably a very fast dog but 10 or 12/1 is very short for a young dog that as yet hasnt taken on the more experienced hardened top dogs....it takes a real good one ta step up and beat the big guns and plenty fast pups have fallen at that hurdle(some very notable ones)......

That's the reason i had no intention of backing him Michael (price too short) but seeing as it was a free bet for opening the account it didn't feel like it was my own money i was backing with so just put it on him because i do like him .

Edit : what i should have said in my previous post was not"he'll win it" i should have said "he'll probably do the best of my 3"

i'm just back from boylessport to verify a/c asked about the problem on getting bets on on-line guy said he thinks they're trying to limit their liabilities because of the offer but did say he was only guessing. There's no problem getting on in the shops backed Droopys Ward this morning so that's now 4 .At this rate i'll have half the field backed
