Hi all
With arguably the greatest greyhound competition in world starting this week i thought it would be fun to start a thread so people could post their opinions on who they see winning it this year (also add your reasons if you wish). Also like to add if anyone is thinking of having a flutter i strongly recommend using Boylesports as your bookmaker to place your bets with (hope this isn't seen as me trying to advertise the business i do have my reasons) reasons being is firstly there generous sponsorship of the competition. Secondly there brilliant special offer where if you dog is eliminated in the first 3 rounds your money is refunded, so basically your bet starts at the quarter final stage with the added bonus your getting the first round odds on the dog. Anyway here's mine i have three

Holdem Spy 20/1.....very good competition dog and very unlucky last year to miss out because of injury at a late stage

Priceless Lassie 66/1 ...not the kind of dog i would usually go for in a derby being a bitch and so young , but was very impressed with her when winning her stake in Youghal and definitely looks like a bitch that will keep progressing though the comp with her run style

Droopys Nidge 10/1JF.....Great dog

richard i have that problem with a couple of smaller bookmakers at the moment (Bruce Betting and a local bookie).
tbh with you i only opened the boylessport account last night. so the 50 euro free bet came in handy , i threw that on Nidge i had no intention of backing him originally

Paddy Power gave me 11.94 EW at 66-1

I laid bigger bets 30 years ago when I was the school bookie!

Richard, one or two things could be happening here either you've had a good run recently and the traders have gotten their fangs into you and limiting your bets (which i know is a friggin nuisance) or maybe they're limiting their online liabilities though i did manage to get more on last night than they offered you with boylessport , but that could because i'm a new customer so they didn't want to put me off opening the account. I have to go into one of there shops this week to get my account verified while i'm in there i'll ask to see how much i can get on ......my guess is they'll be no restriction in shops and after all the Derby for gods sake with over a hundred runners

Hi Charlie

I rarely bet with Boylesports so they have no reason to restrict my bets.

Not sure if I am a winning account with them or not but it wouldn't be a huge amount either way in any case so not sure why they restrict me to that pathetic amount.

Incidentally, shortly after having the bet with Paddy Power they cut her price to 50-1 LOL

Unless they think I know something which I don't I just liked the look of her form and might get a good run with style of running, keep qualifying and maybe reach the final for 1/4 the odds.

I hope your right Wayne but just in case I'd place my bet with BoyleSports (win money back if knocked out in first 4 rounds) I'm looking forward to it, as long as it lasts Lol. She's 200/1 I personally think they (the bookmakers) could well afford to double all the prices from the fav to the compleat outsider, it's a lottery to pick the winner from 120 dogs and get the luck of the race for so many rounds too

He's still quoted in the betting but that means nothing. The dogs last couple of runs in the champion stakes were a bit flat (for him) none of that early spark and got beat a long way

Yeah Mick has been a little off form, I backed him after his t/rec in Newbridge. CLICK HERE Am still hoping that he can fumble through the first few rounds then peak to that form again for the finals ;)

Colm hopefully they enter him in the morning and show some of that spark again , he's a good dog a worthy of a shot at the derby .

Nigel ..i agree it's a lottery ok. But every year i always have a ante post bet on two or three dogs before the start when either the English or Irish derby comes around and only ever backed the winner once Blonde Snapper backed him at 66/1, Will never forget the day i backed him, he won the coral sprint at romford and Pat Cooney from Bet 365 was in the RPGTV studio and announce that they were going to hold the 66/1 price for 10 minutes for anyone who wanted to back him upto 50 pound / euro.......never in my life have i moved so fast to get on i nearly had a heart attack LOL

Wanted 50 on a 50's shot, got Offered 33... Absolute Joke in this day and age and more so given they are sponsoring the event.
