Hey Steve old mate,i really enjoyed the tipping comp this year.Why don't we have it again with a $50.00 fee .Then everyone will have a incentive to stay in it.And even say a monthly winner of $100.Also yearly donated prizes.Just a thought. I would certainally be in that.Whats your thoughts bud.Cheers Kieth

I'd love to do another one and I'd be happy with putting in $50. I reckon $50 would be enough for a monthly winner otherwise it would eat too much into the available money for end of year prizes.

Putting in money will make a fun comp far too difficult.
Who is going to set up and run the trust account ?

Steve runs his own business and I very much doubt he would have the time

few things I'd change.
Those who registered but couldn't be bothered for what ever reason
Putting in their tips , after 4 weeks just wipe them off the list less work

Points be awarded from first to last keep people who haven't picked a winner for a few weeks in the game

Say once a month give those that's dog runs last a couple of bonus points
It's pretty clear that those who are frequent punters do better in the comp

I don't mind running another comp next year but I'd really like some help with prizes. I've done my bit there.

Regarding scoring that's not a drama as I've basically formulated a program that takes care of all calculations. It just takes around 90 minutes each week of "copy & pasting", everybody's tips & results...so that's all taken care of.

What does really annoy me is this year we started with 90 hopefuls & only around half crossed the finish-line.
Why did 40 odd members give-up ???
Was it because they didn't think they could win, so they simply give up because they had nothing to lose.
Maybe they just simply forgot to place their tips.
Maybe because it cost nothing to join & it was simply easy to just walk away.

I think the $50 fee would encourage members to be more fair-dinkum & continue to turn up each week. It's just $1 a week when you think about it.

90 members x $50 = $4500 pool.

$100 to the highest scoring MONTHLY winner x 11 months = $1100.

$4500 - $1100 still leaves $3400 for the yearly prize.

50% of the pool goes to the winner - $1700

20% of the pool goes to 2nd - $680

10% of the pool goes to 3rd - $340

5% of the pool goes to 4th - $170

Which leaves $510 which you could have 10 prizes of $50.

I'm just thinking out loud.

The 510 left over could go till the highest paid tip.

Also steve any thoughts on using one meeting a month at shelbourne Dublin and maybe the big nights like Derby final and night of stars. Adds a little extra interest for the people outside of aus

Sounds good Steve but re your example, after you monthly prizes are taken out of the $$$ pool how about -
1st = $1500
2nd = $ 750
3rd = $ 400
4th = $ 200
5th to 15th = $50

The more prizes the better re participant retention.

Hi Steve
i think it was good as it is
many thanks to the sponsors
whom i would guess like to see more people compete
i wouldnt change too much
keep it simple
maybe do away with the forget rule
why should any one get points when they forgot
others remember to put tips in and get none if they pick wrong
and the late rule
stiff if your late
already enough work for you without adding more
complications like money

90 members next time with money ? i doubt it
regards Marty

Hi Dean & happy New Year m8.

Those races (Group races only) could be a possibly....but I'd need help from those in the know (like yourself), as I not up to date with races aboard.

At this stage, I don't know what's going with the comp this year as I won't be putting my hand up to get prizes.

Hopefully, somebody or maybe a group of members will handle that.

I'm more than happy to handle the tipping & scoring side of things...on a weekly basis.

Cheers Steve

Regarding the $50 idea, seems there are some that what to put their hand up...and some that are a bit sceptical.

Maybe we could make it optional where only those that want to "PAY-UP", PLAY for $$$$.....For example, if JOHNNY BROWN paid-up & run 8th in next years TIPPING COMP, and everybody else in front of him opted to NOT PAID the $50.....Johnny wins the pool.

Just thinking aloud.

Sounds like a good idea,could get a prize if u finish in top 20 not a bad incentive,even when I have no hope i play for pride & just battle on to finish as high as possible.

I think most of us gamblers would be happy to put in $50. But I think there needs to be bonus points for tipping longer shot winners. Eg tip $5+ winner bonus 10 points, $10+ winner 30 points, $20+ winner 50 points and $30+ winner 100 points . This will give people that are behind still hope.

I've been thinking about something similar Scott.

What about DOUBLE POINTS (To start with), at the member's discretion......x 10.

In other words, a member can nominate DOUBLE POINTS, on a single bet, 10 times a year, whenever they like.
I'm pretty sure I could work that into my program over a six pack.
