Setanta Sports Tipping League

A new deal was announced today with the live TV schedule announced exclusive to Setanta Sports. RTE will continue to show the Ladbrokes 600, Oaks and Derby Finals. Setanta will show the Mike Cronin Juvenile Classic, the Gain Cesarawitch, the Accelerated Drains Corn Cuchaillain, the Cashmans Laurels, the Gain Masters, the Irish Derby Semi Final meeting and the Irish Derby Final meeting, and the Mardocs Holdings Golden Jacket Final.

I will be running a tipping league similar to my Sky Sports league with a couple of tweaks here and there and weekly and overall prizes.

Watch this space. This is a cross-forum competition with my blog as the hub.

RTE haven't shown the Oaks for the last couple of years I think but they did show the Champions stakes which you didn't mention.

So this year are RTE going to show the Oaks and Champion Stakes or both?

If RTE aren't going to show the Oaks you would think that would be the first Final Setanta would want to show.

I am pleased to announce that this competition will have a 500 cash prize fund for the League, and nice weekly prizes as well.

I will give further info soon and name the League sponsor, as well as outlining the rules of the competition.

I am delighted to announce that BONVILLE KENNELS who are based in Essex and attached to Romford (Steve and Maxine Locke) have very generously put up 500 as the prize fund in this competition.

This is a superb gesture - thanks a million guys.

In addition to the grand prize, there will also be prizes for each evening. More details to follow.

If you fancy yourself as a tipster, keep an eye on manaboutdogblog in the next couple of weeks. The first event is the Cronin Juvenile Classic at Tralee at the end of the month.

Over the year, I will be hosting a competition for each live show broadcast on Setanta Sports. Steve Locke of Bonville Kennels has kindly put up a cash prize fund of 500 for the League.

There are provisionally 8 shows but this could be more or less - I cannot control this. Nor can I influence the number of races per show. It could be anything between 3 and 6.

I will list all eligible races on this blog. Any races shown live that were not highlighted on this blog are not eligible. Any recorded races are not eligible either.

HOW TO PLAY

SELECTIONS: For each race broadcast live (and nominated on this blog) contestants must pick one dog. If this selection wins the contestant receives 20 points. If the selection is second the contestant scores 10pts. If your selection wins, and is returned at odds greater than 4/1, you get another 20 points.

NAPS: One of your selections on the night must be your designated NAP. This selection scores double points. So for example, your dog wins at 5/1 - you get 20 points for the win, 20 points for being returned at over 4/1, and then this is doubled to 80 points for being a NAP.

BISMARCKS: For each broadcast, you must select a BISMARCK. This is a dog you think will lose. It's not that simple though - the dog has to be returned as CLEAR favourite (joint or co-favourites are not acceptable). If the dog is not returned as favourite you simply do not scored any points. If your BISMARCK is beaten, you get 25 points. If you are brave and decide to select an odds-on favourite as your BISMARCK, then you get 50 points. It will take good judgement to play this rule properly and could be the difference between winning and mid-table mediocrity. Also, your BISMARCK cannot be one of your selections to win, or your NAP.

HOW TO ENTER

All entries must be submitted via the comments section on this blog EXTERNAL LINK
Only one entry is permitted per person. All entries must include your full correct name, and a valid email address. If for any reason this is not correct I reserve the right to withhold payment of any prizes. This is for a bit of fun so no blaggarding please.

All entries must be submitted on this blog no later than 1hour prior to the official post-time of the first scheduled race. There will be no entries accepted by email, phone, carrier pigeon or on any internet forum or chat rooms.

PRIZES

The Winner of the 2009 Setanta Sports Tipping League will recieve 300 cash. The winner will be deemed as the contestant with the most points accumulated in 2009. In the event of a tie the winner will be decided on who has the most weekly wins out of those tied. If there is still no clear winner, the contestant with the most sucessful NAPS, followed by the most successful BISMARCKS.

The Runner-Up will recieve 100. The Runner-Up will be deemed as the contestant scoring the second highest number of points in 2009. In the event of a tie the rules will be as per those for the Winner.

The NAP KING will recieve 50. The NAP KING will be deemed as the contestant who got the most successful NAP selections. In the event of a tie the NAP KING will be decided based on the total number of points accumulated on those NAP selections. If the result is still a tie, the prize will be divided equally.

The BISMARCK BARON WILL recieve 50. The BISMARCK BARON will be deemed as the contestant who got the most BISMARCK selections beaten. In the event of a tie the BISMARCK BARON will be decided based on the total number of points accumulated on those BISMARCK selections. If the result is still a tie, the prize will be divided equally.

There will be small prizes for each broadcast also for the WINNER, NAP KING and BISMARCK BARON. These will be announced prior to each broadcast.

The first event will be the Cronin Unraced Juvenile Classic Final.

Johnny when I go to add comment to make my entry, I can type it onto the comment box fine and enter my name and email address, but the buttons "Post" and "Preview" remain greyed out and unclickable. Should I be entering something in the Web Site URL space?
