Rod , he is a very nice type and looks like a typical stayer will go alright this spring.

The word is that Barts Mare Faint Perfume is as good as Leilani and Light Fingers.

Get some of the early odds about Shootout. He will run 3200m no worries and will take all before him this spring.

Reigning Rhythm is the horse's name. Long way from a class 1 at Newcastle next week to the Cup. Still the stable has an opinion of him just whether he is seasoned enough is another thing with him at this stage. He's 300/1 on TAB sporstbet so I am set LOL If he makes the field, great if not well it was a nice dream!

Faint Perfume is a great mare and will feature for sure. Shootout if he does run in the Cup would be a short favourite. Personally if he's headed for the Cox Plate I think he my bypass the Cup. My opinion of course.

Sounds nice Helen have a great time!

BROC id be very suprised to see SHOOYOUT in the MELB CUP when history shows these type of horses can monopolise WFA racing. If SHOOTOUT wins both the CAUL CUP & COX PLATE we are then looking at a 4yr old of brilliance that will be handicped out of the MELB CUP. Horses that can sprint and stay in group quality have proven to be the elite and alot of horses that go in MELB CUPS are never sighted again...... Theres always the lure of the race but im tipping there may not be any real plans for a start in the cup as hes to brilliant to risk.

SHOCKING FOR ME, and on his 1st up run will only shorten more, and
Mourayan would be value at $70.

Mal the cup weights come out before the caulfeild cup is run yes,the Cox Plate is a non penalty so if he wins the Cualfeild cup he should only get 1 and 1/2 to 2 kgs.I will have to have a look at his rating it,s not hard to work it out 100 is about the limit 51 and each rating point is equal to around 1/2 a kg

Mal,
Shootout would only get a penalty if he won the Cualfield Cup. You do not get a weight penalty for winning a WFA ie Cox Plate race so winning the Cox Palte won't affect his weight for the Cup. I agree with you though as I said before the Cup is probably not on his agenda.

Broc,
as stated below he is no certain starter at all for the Cup!

He'll win the Cox Plate - Shoot Out trainer
Brad Waters
Saturday, 14 August 2010

Gold Coast trainer John Wallace had a simple message for Shoot Outs future rivals after the four-year-olds outstanding win in the Group II J J Liston Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield.

Hell win the Cox Plate, Wallace said.
Shoot Out raced three and four-wide for most of the race with jockey Stathi Katsidis again giving Wallace some concerns with his riding tactics.

I thought how wide can this bloke get, he said. He (Katsidis) knew what he was doing anyway. He (Shoot Out) is just such a good racehorse.

Shoot Out showed his terrific turn of foot and fighting qualities to beat last years Liston Stakes winner Predatory Pricer, denying the stallion a win on debut for the Mick Price camp.

The four-year-olds win left Wallace full of confidence for the rest of the son of High Chaparrals spring carnival. The trainer had no hesitation in declaring Shoot Out would not lose in Octobers Group I Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Hes nowhere near ready yet, Wallace said. Ive just been playing about with him. He might find it harder next start to beat Typhoon Tracy over 1400 metres, but after that, look out."

Wallace was more circumspect about Shoot Outs chances in the Melbourne Cup, insisting the powerhouse galloper would not run unless I think he can"

TRAINER John Wallace has given his best indication yet that Shoot Out may attempt theCaulfield Cup-Cox Plate-Melbourne Cup treble.

"I'm not ruling out any race," Wallace said yesterday.

"He is the type of horse that could run in all three because he copes so well with racing.

"The more racing this horse has, the better he is and there is a chance he could run in all three - but I won't run him in any race I don't think he can win."

Shoot Out continued his stunning from when he overcame a torrid run to win the Liston Stakes from Predatory Pricer at Caulfield on Saturday.

He was immediately installed the $5 TAB fixed odds favourite for the Cox Plate (2040m) at Moonee Valley on October 23 - the race Wallace says is definitely in his sights.

"We are going to the Cox Plate and then the Melbourne Cup," he added. "He's also a chance to run in the Caulfield Cup but it depends on the handicaps, how the horse is going and those sort of things.

"I'm also looking at the Mackinnon Stakes, that's worth $1 million this year

Mackinnon as well. So that is 4 runs in 17 days....He'd want to be every bit as good as he thinks he is!

Be interesting to see how he fairs....

shoot out looks the goods in the cox plate

speaking to a guy last week who has a horse with bart the freak and he claimed "so you think" has come back alot better horse. i asked if they thought he would be a little more dour as a 4 year old, i got a little wink of apporval...they still think he is good enough to nudge another cox plate, but dont be shocked if shoot out keeps going in the form he's in that bart's plan revolve more arounf the cups with " so you think"

Yes fully aware of that ROD but from memory NORTHERLEY was weighted at 58.5 or 59 after he won the CAULFIELD and his resume was around the same as SHOOT OUTS going in. Know at WFA he cant be penalised above 58 so it makes sense to target these races especially when you race like these type of animals.
My tip is he wont be going to any MELB CUP, if he wins the COX they dont need it and if he fails in the COX he wont be considering looking further. But if he fails in the CAULFIELD or doesnt race in it at sticks to non penalty races and can get into the race at 55kg theres always a lure. If he were mine he wouldnt be going to 3200mts when theres no need to finish his career.
