Who we are ...

Garrett Kelly spent his formative years working as head lad for his father, Bill Kelly, a highly respected Irish trainer during the vintage days with runners at Clapton, White City, Harringay, Wembley and West Ham, while his mother had trained in her own right at Catford during the war years, under her maiden name of Doris Cox.

In 1988 Garrett established his own 150-dog kennels at Claverhambury and in 1989 was appointed contract trainer for Romford Stadium in Essex, where his greyhounds earned him a sound reputation for training graded winners at Romford and Open-class winners all over England.

After a break of several years, Garrett Kelly has brought his dog-handling skills for both track and field back to Ireland. Having a keen eye for injury and the gift of getting the best out of a dog, he is well-known in the industry for his ability to handle troublesome greyhounds and get results.

With nearly forty years of slipping under his belt dating from the Rolls Royce era of coursing and greyhound racing, Garrett Kelly remains a living legend on the sporting field. Known for his integrity, honesty and good humour, Kelly was born into a greyhound racing family in Ireland and perfected his slipping skills under the tutelage of the famous Jimmy Rimmer, before becoming one of the youngest ever to slip the fist of his 17 Waterloo Cups, and hold both a British and Irish licence. Also the first man in 200 years to slip a 128-dog stake at the Greyhound 2000 Millennium Celebration, his autobiography, Champagne & Slippers gives a fascinating account of his colourful life, both on and off the field.
