I'm fairly certain that the brilliant early speed comes from the Irish half of Fusileer's pedigree.
Gable Dodge was dog with great closing speed over 550 yards and Dutch Bahama could win at 550 or 660 yards.

Martin I have heard that from several people now. Another interesting comment from his trainers is that he runs out the 500 meters very strong. So it is very rare to see a greyhound that has blistering early pace and is strong.
I can't see why a great sprinter like Fernando Bale, being related to another good Wheeler sire in Jarvis Bale can't be a future major influence in this country
Thanks Sandro...no lecture just found a dog that fitted the brief...
PAW no doubt those girls are 'strong' and would benefit mixing with his explosive speed...Good luck with those future litters...

The American dog as a rule dose not have the early pace our Australian dogs do but this bloke does .
I am very interested in using him with some of our females maybe the likes of Xylia Allen and Dyna Willow will go to him !

Irish for pace
- US for strength
The above is correct !
The main reason is , in the US there track surfaces are deep sand , so even though they run about the same distance as us it is a lot tougher going. I have walked on a couple of their tracks that were prepared for racing and in normal lace up shoes and you sink in so far that the sand is going in your shoes
The difference in our track surfaces to the US track is if you were running two dogs up a beach , the Aussie dog would be running where the water is running on and off the sand and the US dog would be running 50 meters away from the water.
So they need a stronger dog to run the same distance as we do .
Most Irish tracks are very small running less the 500 meter for a race and their surfaces are similar to ours , so they need early pace.
Not saying one is better than the other just the way they do things in their countries

Sandro
Xylia Allen was 31 to 32 KG . Very big for a female
I need smaller size with her and early pace.
Fernando is looking very good at the moment.

Injury wise...Would 'we' be better off going to a 'deeper, softer' surface...???

Grant This is off the subject but in my opinion !
I have been all over the world watching greyhound races and we in Australia have the most interference in racing out of the lot.
In the US their lure is at least 2 meters off the rail encouraging the dogs in a race to run more to the centre of the track resulting in less interference.
In Ireland they are 6 dogs fields with an outside lure , less interference then us again.
In Australia our main problem is the amount of interference we have in our racing
Figures I have seem recently is the average number of starts a greyhound has in the US is 38 in Aus less than 20

With the US sires that have imported Irish blood up close you would think there would be a chance of getting a good mix of strength and speed. I'm also interested in how a dog like Destiny Fireball will perform at stud with his US strength and Aussie pace in his pedigree.

fernando was drawn to win the egg, only he and the 1 had drawn well, and he has the 1 covered, the rest jammed soon after the start

David the dog is freak considering his age.
The dog can win from any box and if you take a look at his races to date you will see something very very special that not many dogs have ....Early speed mid race Pace and Run home speed he truly is a remarkable dog.
